Galindo was one of the top scores in the NT history and as a midfielder. He had 20+ goals. I think he may could have had a better career with the NT but he did pretty well for the 94 team.

Same thing with Omar Bravo as others mentioned. He had 2 world cup goals, with already puts him on a select list with the NT. He could have done better but he did enough to be in the good NT career.

I think people that should go on the list be people who not only were expected to be stars but do something with the NT and have failed miserably. Which is why I put Omar Arellano because people hyped him up pre Chicharito and as a mexican star but I doubt anybody would think he would be now where he was with no meaninful tournaments in the NT and one measly goal against Venezuela. I remember when he scored thinking this would be the first of many and instead it's 3 years after and its still the only one.

Chato Rodriguez is another. Widely believed to be a future star and instead ends up with only one goal against Jamaica in a gold cup rout and also no meaningful participations with the NT eventhough Lavolpe gifted him caps all thru his tenure.

i was never too convinced by arellano. his inconsistency and frailty had me thinking he was going to be another future star that flamed out. granted, some of it also comes from an inert skepticism since for every chicharo or borgetti, there's a marquez lugo,, a landin, a santiago fernandez, a chuy mendoza, etc...

as far as galindo, nica if you even got to see him play he was already in his late 30's and off the national team. i got to see him play a bit , take some good free kicks and even score a hat trick at 40 years old against tecos.

another guy i thought was destined for the nt but never did was rafa medina. not necessarily light it up but at least be a fringe nt player.

I'm surprised that so many posters mentioned Omar Arellano. I knew he was shit years ago.

i too think it's a bit unfair to include reyna. he has done well while playing under chepo. he hasn't single handedly won any games, but he was brought in during the gold cup to kill off games which he did help with his passing. i think he still has a spot on chepo's team, though i don't think he'll ever start over gio.

For what it's worth, Reyna has been playing more than GIO so he should start over him in the NT right now.

Fair point but pretty well isn't really lighting it up is it?

I'm not old enough to make a real analysis on Galindo though. Only faintly remember him with la sele. But maybe that's the point? lol

I have a better memory of his league play.

Really just going off mi viejo on this one and interested in what some of the older bigsoqueros think about him.

I remember him, what I remember was he was brilliant and had a sublime touch and passing more than a deadly strike or flashy (see Venado) stuff. I think he did pretty well and I would not include anyone in the top 10 scoring list in this thread.

    I did too.

I really thought he would be an important player for the 06 run, but he really was shit. I think his best game was that first game against guatemala.

Agreed, I remember watching his first game and he scored a goal where IIRC he hit with the outer part of his foot, and I recall thinking that is why we need him. he can score those goals, especially at a time when we had no scorers on the team.

Actually, that's a good one. I didn't watch the 1991 U20s (one of our underrated teams, only loss was an elimination match in extra time to host and eventual champs Portugal), but I remember where I was when I first heard Milan signed him. Man did I have high hopes.
