Good to have Austin back in the game, indeed. And I agree that starting with PDL is a good move. It worked the first time, that's for sure. The U23 team drew nearly 1,200 a game in 2008.
I just posted this in the USL-Pro expansion thread, but it really belongs here. According to their Facebook page Boston Victory will be joining PDL for the 2012 campaign with an eye toward USL-Pro in 2013. They have a basic web page: http://www.hometeamsonline.com/teams/default.asp?s=soccer&t=c&u=BOSTONVICTORY Their Facebook page is more active and states that a different homepage is coming. They just finished up 3 rounds of tryouts. Not clear where they will be playing, but tryouts were held at Veterans Memorial Stadium in Quincy MA (it's on a T line )
Texas Dutch Lions will start up in 2012. Affiliated with FC Twente and the Dayton Dutch Lions, they'll play in the Houston area. http://pdl.uslsoccer.com/home/580297.html
Was wondering when someone else will notice who the owner is and start the whole speculation on when or if they will go USL Pro?
Or when someone from DC will start speculating or dreaming about him being a new owner for DC United.
No one; I repeat NO ONE dreams of having Peter Angelos own their favorite professional sports team. I'm guessing the soccer team is as much a developmental team for the owner as it is for the players. I guess one day Louis will be in charge of the Orioles. Here's hoping he wants to win instead of just milking the team.
Here's one that I don't remember being mentioned before. A PDL team in Worcester, MA. So two new clubs in MA, now up to 3. It helps fill out the division with more team. Here's a link to the announcement on the league site. http://pdl.uslsoccer.com/home/582264.html
Add CFC AZUL to the new PDL franchise list...will be announced next week at the AGM...we are out of Connecticut.. We have 70 plus youth teams in the CFC club and a team in the WPSL..the CFC Passion (Women) https://www.facebook.com/CFCAZUL Cheers
If they put you in the New England division that should bring it up to 8 teams if all 5 from this season come back. That should help out with travel and reduce the number of times they play each other. Having 9 would be ideal for a 16 game season.
The Tucson announcement on the league site. Interesting to see what division they end up in. http://www.uslsoccer.com/home/586034.html
In terms of pure mileage, they are closest to southern California, so my guess is that they'll end up in the Southwest, and BYU and Ogden will move to either the PNW or the Heartland.
Heartland makes more sense. Last year it only had seven teams, and included Real Colorado. ...Though, now that I look at a map, yeah, Colorado's closer, but for overall travel, I can see where the PNW makes more sense. It will be interesting to see how this all settles out.
So which are the 4 that folded. I've missed that. I know we talked about Akron not coming back. But who else?
so the 14 new teams ? 1 Palmetto Bantams Greenwood 2 Worcester Hydra 3 Tampa Vision Sports Institute 4 Baltimore Bohemians 5 Boston Victory 6 Texas Lions 7 Austin Axtex 8 DC United -23 9 Cosmos NY 10 Tucson FC 11 Connecticut Azul 12 13 14
Here's another one for that list of 14. So up to 12 now. The Chicago Inferno who previously were going to join the NPSL. It's on the team site, but haven't seen it on the league site yet. http://www.infernosc.com/
