My parents are life smokers, and are not likely to quit anytime soon sadly. What bugs me the most if having to breath in theit second-hand smoke. I mean, it's not like I sit there next to them and inhale it purposely, it's just sometimes when I walk past, I get an accidental breath of their smoke. They smoke outside away from me but I still manage to get a wiff every now and then. I hate thinking that it's potentially damaging my lungs, harming my on field fitness etc. Is there something to worry about here? Should I TRY and get them to smoke somewhere further away from where I walk about at home (downstairs storage room, backyard etc.?).
So while Pato's response was a bit harsh, am I reading it correctly that they already smoke outside? If so then there really isn't anymore you can ask is there? It is their house. And I assure one breath every now and again is not going to kill you, or be detrimental to your health.
Yes. Smoking is terrible. Adverts on the TV show even though they're facing at the window, a huge quantity of smoke still goes around the house. Have a chat with them about it.
I'm no expert, but I would think that any little smoke can be harmful to your lungs, especially as it builds up over time. I wouldn't worry about it though, because it's not like they smoke in the house, they do it outside, right?
Maybe asking them to smoke even further away from the rest of the family (me and my little sister) is a bit harsh. I'll just not go outside when they're smoking. Is the ashtray dangerous by any chance? I mean when they put their smoke out, their would still be some chemicals leaking from wouldn't there be?
I recommend trying to talk to your parents about it. You should also be worried about their lung health. I don't think a few breaths of smoke will hurt you. I know some players that smoke cigarettes and who knows what else and are still more fit then me and I don't smoke. But talk to your parents and let them know that your worried there smoking might affect you.
I don't think it will hurt too much, I always get bombarded with smoke when I walk down the street every day in the city and I'm fine. Just make sure you are eating a healthy diet to protect your lungs. I would talk to them about it, try to encourage them to quit even. I don't see how people can smoke, and I don't see how it can be an 'addiction'.
I agree with Pato. Plenty of players were smokers back in the 60's and 70's. Some even smoked at halftime. As long as you train regularly, there really should be no problem.
if it's just a "wiff", then it's probably not hurting you very much, if at all. your lungs should be able to handle it. totally different story if they smoke indoors.
