Hello gentlemen, I'm looking at the possibility of doing my spring semester of next year abroad at Oxford. One of the major considerations of whether or not I do this program is, that's right, whether I can attend several Arsenal games. Given that a map suggests that Oxford is really far away from North London, and that Google Maps suggests that it takes six hours to get from Oxford to the Emirates, I was wondering if any of the denizens here would be able to comment on how long it would actually take to get to the Emirates? I will not have a car for the semester. Any and all feedback is greatly appreciated.
After looking at http://www.virgintrains.co.uk/ I believe it is doable. I would encourage you to go over any ways because it will be an experience that most people don't get.
I'm in law school mate - there's a risk/reward factor that I have to consider. I'm leaning yes right now, but being able to conveniently go to Arsenal games means that I'd definitely go.
The only downside is the dates of matches in spring tend to move around alot more than say the fall. I would also join a supporters club over there as you will then able to get away tickets.
Oxford to London Paddington is an hour on the train, and then it's around 20 minutes on the tube to Arsenal. There is also Megabus or National Express from Oxford to London Victoria.
I did a summer at University College in Oxford while I was in law school. It is quite easy to get to London and to Arsenal from there. You can either take the train, which is a bit more pricey and go straight to Paddington, then take the tube up to arsenal, or you can take a bus (the Oxford Express if I remember correctly), which will drop you off close to a tube station as well. The bus would definitely be your cheaper route, but be prepared for a long trip (1 hr 30 mins on bus + the inevitable tube delays on game days). Either way, its real easy to get to London from Oxford, and once you're in London and can get on the tube, getting to Arsenal is a breeze as well.
