Exposing him? He has been exposed for years. If he was more exposed he would get arrested for public lewdness.
Right now, I'd say that the OWNERS need to shake up or just maybe totally replace the Business Side of the Front Office. There's been so many, many times that simple publicity could make a difference. Everyone has complained about Parking Costs sky-rocketing with no advance notice, and getting screwed with the Spain/ElSalvador double header at FedEx with little regard for alternates or better seating for STHs. But then this weekend has just put a plum on top. College night was adequately publicized, but this was a tough weekend with the Nats on Saturday, and cold windy weather. (and YES, weather really does affect attendance). Then somebody in the FO there had the bright idea of offering $10 tickets to fill up a lousy section. Great idea. That was publicized like at NOON on game day. If it was such a great idea, then publicize it BIG on Thursday. They would have gotten 2x-3x the attendance, and that much more spent on concessions. And then they had this absolutely wonderful thing at half-time honoring Clyde Simms. A very moving testimony by him on the TV screen talking about his struggles with kidney disease and how much he loved DC United and the community. Except there was NO advance publicity about it. Nothing on Thursday, nothing on Friday, nothing before the game on Saturday, and nothing about it up until "Hey, look. Its Clyde Simms standing out there on the field. Hey! He's up on the screen, too". And the he was escorted around to see fans in the 100 sections near the dugout. Except that stadium security guards were checking your tickets to keep fans out. And then the gal escorting him didn't even take him over to the supporter groups. Absolutely NO thought was put into this. And going back to the Home Opener, they had an auction of warm-up jerseys autographed by individual players that you could bid on to honor Kuykendall. Great idea. Wonderful idea. Hear-warming idea. And yet again, no advanced publicity. This is not on the unpaid interns everyone jokes about. This is on the Owners and the yokels they've put in charge of the business here.
I read both of these paragraphs with my mouth hanging wide open. Because I had no idea ..... and I'm in the damned stadium. And I tend to pay attention (more than many) to whats going on the week before the game. I probably would have delayed my trip upstairs at halftime to see Clyde Simms.
Have you missed the last year and half where they *have* fired most of the Front Office? They just haven't gotten around to actually replacing them with much beyond interns. *That* is why there's little to no publicity about gameday events. *That* is why they undercut one ticket promotion with another cheaper one.
There were a couple of DCU officials talking with people in my section before kickoff on Saturday. I saw one of the pair's access badges clearly. His title? INTERN. I shit you not.
That's a shame. Clyde deserves better. Agree to your point about the $10 tickets. Why wouldn't they advertise that sooner? Most have made up their mind about if they're going to the game well before the day of.
Probably because they panicked about low ticket sales on Friday and scrambled to get Leidos to sponsor $10 tickets at the last minute.
I would love to see how "House of Lies" would deal with something like the DCU FO. My head might explode from the jargon.
More likely had to do with the deadline of letting "visiting team" seats go off reserve and up for sale. If NE had any visiting fans, that sale would likely not have happened
Makes sense. Still, stinks of desperation and doesn't get that many people in the door. Can you imagine a Hard Knocks style series that showed the behind the scenes of the DCU FO? It would be....interesting.
