Ok so with that ligoc Paraguay is a better team than Ecuador, Chile and COlombia at the moment? You're a joke bro. They may have performed great in the Copa America, ya two years ago but that was exactly two, almost thee years ago same for Peru, and they are nowhere near being at a level where they can perfrm competitvely against any of the likes in South America never mind outside of CONMEBOL. In those two years many things changed, just like within the shitty perfomrance Paraguay had in Germany '06 and Copa AMerica 2007 they got up and redeemed themselves to qualfy third to South Africa and nearly edge into the semi finals of that said cup. Hence, qualifiers are also an indicator of how a team will perform.
I agree, if anything I felt that Venezuela was way more deserving of gonig to the final than freaking Paraguay. Well in the end they got butt raped by Uruguay which only showed how fluke their road to the final was. And don't get me started how embarrassing Paraguay and Peru would be had they qualified to this World Cup with the shitty forms they've been in, with Gonchi's logic Peru should be a better team altogehter than Chile and COlombia because they always make it at least to the semifinals of the Copa America and they've also made it to the quarter finals of the World Cup, ya back in '78, but where has Peru been since after '82? Nowehre to be ********ing seen on the international football map.
so Chelsea was the best team in Europe while also finishing 5th in the premier league? you have to be pretty naive to believe that League formats are the best way to sort out where everyone is in relation to everyone else
I don't know about Ecuador, but Chile does well in qualifiers because league formats reward attacking sides more than tournament formats. This is not a secret. I don't care about qualifier positions either (as long as it's a direct spot I am happy). In a league format I can win a few more matches than those we lose and come out on top to another side who is more solid defensively, like Uruguay, despite them losing less matches than Chile, but drawing more. The 3 points for a win vs 1 point for a draw makes all the difference in league formats. In elimination tournaments all that matters is NOT to lose. Which is why Paraguay did so well in Copa America, those guys made it all the way to final without winning in regular time. In a league format, a team (A) with 3 consecutive draws will leave you in the same position as a team (B) who loses 2 matches and wins 1. In an elimination cup, like the World Cup for example, I'd put my money on team (A) to go further. Having said that, with a generous draw, I think this Chile side can go further than last time as it is more solid defensively, Sampaoli has only lost his first match against Peru (back in March) and has beaten or drawn everyone since. Plus, players are more experienced, so that's a bonus. I'm not sure how Colombia are going to handle their first cup in such a long time...
Y también se puede decir que llegaron a la final sin perder un partido... You're mixing things up by bringing clubs into it, for one they play that league over a single season not three like our WCQ's, there aren't months of inactivity between fixtures, and there's a CL up for grabs every season, unlike a Copa America which comes once over several years. I don't remember seeing any Argentineans celebrating that they'd won the WCQ's, or Ecuadorians lamenting finishing outside the podium. But to answer your question; Yes. If they weren't why didn't someone else win the CL? Manchester City, Manchester United and Arsenal all finished ahead of Chelsea in England, they were also in the CL that year but went out to teams Chelsea beat out to win the CL. I know for certain Chelsea fans were happier finishing 5th in the EPL and winning the CL, than Manchester United fans were being level on points for first place but finishing second on goal difference in England that season. Also, if I understand correctly, by your logic, in 1966 when Peñarol won the Libertadores and was beating Real Madrid home and away in the Intercontinental Cup, the best Uruguayan team was actually Nacional? Well, ok, if you say so... I don't think Guri will be bothered given how ridiculous that viewpoint is, though I suspect mwjppgr might be around soon to have some words with you on that regard. While I don't necessarily disagree with any of this, when you've got driven players like Forlan and Suarez saying that so long as Uruguay qualify they'd sign going through a play-off, to me it speaks volumes about the mentality with which, at least we, approach a WCQ as opposed to a Copa America or really any other tournament.
If anything I think CHile's defense looks weaker than in the Bielsa era, but your attacking looks great.

Think everyone in the world would take a repechaje if it means a silverware in the WC...not saying anything new. The qualies are a correct measuring stick comparing the teams, what happens in the WC is entirely different.
my personal opinion is that short tournaments don't determine who the best team truly are, they simply tell you who won the final game in a month long tournament or in some cases who won the final Penalty Shoot out in fact you can win a world cup without winning a game...and that sums it all up really also you can go unbeaten over 4 years and lose one game which happens to be the WC final of course you cant have a league format for a world event, the logistics would be a nightmare in Europe what truly matter is the league (unless your RM who are desperate for their 10th title) the league shows your superiority over your rivals, the CL is a lottery at times, and it depends on what form your in during the crucial states and what luck you get along the way to sum it up to me the WC is a fantastic global event that showcases football to the world, and I would love to have Peru involved, but to me it does not always determine who the best teams are due to the nature of a month long process, however regardless of what goes on...it is great to watch
Individually the defence is still weak, but what I mean with stronger defence is that we have more possession. We are defending better through keeping the ball better. Sampaoli's greatest addition has been Marcelo Diaz (formerly from La U now at Basel FC) to our team, he is the brains at the back and keeps the ball rolling at all times. I know it was only a friendly but if you look at our match against England, after Chile scored in the 7th minute, we just starting passing it around (and back if necessary), absorbing pressure from England and waiting for our chances to get them on the break. We did it time and time again, like in this video for example: Bielsa would have not tolerated a player like Diaz marshalling our movement side-by-side from the back, he would have ordered long passes out wide to Alexis or Edu at every opportunity. His games are very demanding for this reason (and entertaining), but there is no pause and it eventually wears us out. Diaz or Pizarro are absolutely key for us, these deep-lying playmakers give the strikers a bit of a rest and make the other teams work a bit harder to get the ball. They get less chances to attack...that's what I meant with better defence.
Admittedly, I was at work so I could only watch it in pieces. But every time I flipped to it, Colombia was creating danger and just dominating in general. The Belgian goalie made two great saves with his foot and one with his hand. I did see Fellaini hit the post though.
I watched the whole game and, yes, it could've ended on a tie but also could've been an even bigger difference for Colombia. So 2-0 is just about right.

Ivica Osim, etc.
