Well I happen to agree with the Uruguayans, qualifiers mean shit. In what I disagree with is what will determine the World Cup performance, for me a lot of it is luck of the draw, I remember I predicted whoever won S.Africa's group could easily make it to 4th place and it happened. In the same way, I predict Brazil, Argentina, Uruguay and Colombia will have a pretty straightforward qualification out of the group stages (and deservedly so since they earned their seeding). Ecuador and Chile will have to dance with the ugly ones, but I'm confident the Brazilians will cheer them on and give us a 'home' advantage.
Ecuador me preocupa. De sus 25 puntos, 22 los lograron en Quito. No le han ganado a nadie fuera de casa. Y en los partidos amistosos, este año no han mostrado nada. Alemania-C les ganó fácil. Y España les ganó 2-0 en Ecuador. Les falta, y son el único equipo de la region que podría tener problemas en salir de grupo.

It's natural to want to be cautious about your own team but I really see Chile cruising past the group stages. I can't wait for the game against England tomorrow. South America really has outstanding teams right now. Colombia just whooped Belgium 2-0 and if it wasn't for their goalie having a great game, it could have easily been 4-0. Uruguay struggled through most of qualifying but is getting it together now. Ecuador is the only one that may struggle in the group stages. And I still give them better than a 50% chance of going through.
The same thing happened in 2006 qualfying yet Ecuador made it our of their group beating COsta Rica Poland and losing with a lackluster second string team vs Germany. Don't underestimate, I also recall Ecuador had Peru on lock in LIma for like 4 decades prior to last June, as well Bolivia for like 13 years. I know the friendly showings this year have been poor, but only time will tell lets not rush to conclusions just yet. This seemed to happen before the '06 World Cup and alot of people were stunned when the opposite happened. Believe me we've never been favourites in making it out of the group stages, last World CUp in Germany Ecuador was heavily seen as going to fail to make it out of the group, yet they cruised by there first two games.
50-50 mignolet saved like 3 clear goals (martinez, cuadrado, perea)...and another two that were bad definitions, so colombia could scored more goals........but at the same time, belgium had two posts (mertens and fellainy) and benteke headers.........so we were a little lucky of the result .......but the difference culd be bigger belgium collapsed a lot of after the first goal...the match was very similar before

what came last...Copa or qualifiers? like it or not qualifiers shows who is where in Conmebol more than Copa or do you truly believe Paraguay is the second best team and Peru the third... think about it
What's more important? There are five tickets up for grabs during qualifiers, only one cup in a tournament. I don't believe that for a split second, but if that's the mentality other countries have, it explains why the likes of Chile and Ecuador tend to do well in qualifiers but rarely show up for the Copa America. I'll take another repechaje over direct qualification if it means we do well when there's actual silverware to be won.
