Stek had the worst save percentage in Europe that season according to whoscored that season, whoscored were keeping stats on EPL, Serie A, La Liga, Bundesliga, Ligue 1. that's roughly 100 keepers who have played at least 10 league games Stek had the worst save percentage at 55%
Stek was also one of those guys the fan base grew to dislike, and there was nothing that could save him. I remember everyone chirping for him to see the bench after that ridiculous deflection goal against Inter that he could have done nothing about. Romanisti had made up their minds about him, and it snowballed.
The thing is zeman was right to ditch him. He didn't interact with the group, that is not zemans fault. I think the first year broke him and it was never going to work from then on.
That is not true. Zeman said that Mauro is going to be a sub, and every team has 3 GKs. He started the season with Stek and remained the starter for a while, but he sucked and didn't do what Zeman was telling him. Zeman specifically told him to communicate more with his teammates, and this was his reason for dropping him. Goi is the worst GK I have ever seen play in Europe, and I honestly think even in Bahrain amateur GKs are better than him. To sit on the bench for him shows how much Stek sucked. He was insecure before the season started, and his agent said he will leave if a new GK arrives before Goi was signed.
Goicoechea and Stek made each other look good whenever the other sat on the bench, thats how bad they both were
I honestly have zero idea what anyone saw in that goofball. To hear some of the Romanisti on CdT getting excited and using statements like, "he clearly has the reflexes, he just needs to learn fundamentals"... Every goalkeeper suddenly learns fundamentals in their late 20s.
Just look at the difference between Uncle Morgan and Stek. Stek stayed silent for the whole game , while you can hear Uncle Morgan calling for the ball 24/7 , that plays a big part in the defense's confidence as a whole.
Absolutely true. Morgan's known for his communication and organization skills. Honestly, I was excited for Stek when he signed, but how they overlooked the fact that he didn't speak the language or anything close is beyond me.
De Sanctis is a maniac! I love when he holds the ball high after a cross into a crowded area. It's like; "chill guys, I got this!".
This is actually usefull statistic. You cant really make many excuses for the statistically (and practically) worst keeper in the top5 leagues
Whoscored doesn't have a statistic for how much a player doesn't give a shit. That was Stekelenburg's own worst enemy.
Stek sucks. He had a handful, literally a handful of good matches. It doesn't take that long to learn a couple phrases in Italian, and oh I'm sorry Zeman put you into some 1 on 1 situations. Here's your paycheck.
Sanchez says yes to Juventus: http://gianlucadimarzio.com/en/calciomercato/sanchez-says-yes-to-juve-the-details/
They might have already won the title again with that one move. Regardless of how much we improve Sanchez on top of what they already have is just too much for most clubs in the league, they won't drop many points. It's funny, we might get to a situation where our biggest hope of winning the league is for clubs like Inter, Napoli, Fiorentina and Milan to get better. Obviously that would effect us as well but we need more clubs to take points off them.
