I'm always nervous when this happens, for fear we may lose Mariner.

Note to Nicol: Don't lose games 6-0 to Dallas.

Assistants rarely, if ever, join different teams mid-season. If you fear he may go there in the off-season, then i understand. However, the KC organization is inept, and will probably replace Onalfo within the organization, not on an interim basis. They are idiots.

Within the org was right, Peter Vermes.

Also, from Goff, TFC to add a Haitian.
Looking at the standings ... all of a sudden even three wins in our games in hand doesn't put us at the top of the East. We really need to stop squandering points.

I wouldn't be shocked if Mariner left for KC, but who's to say he wouldn't want to leave his options open for a bigger club like Vancouver or St. Louis. No offense to KC, but I think Mariner could probably take the reigns of a club with deeper pockets.

The problem with St. Louis is they DONT have deep pockets at all and that is why they've been passed over so far.

Well DC United just added six more games to their league schedule by beating Firpo in PKs last night. TFC screwed the pooch by not scoring a goal in two games against the Islanders, so they're out of the CCL.

RBNY hosts W Connection tonight, and has a good shot to advance as well, having tied 2-2 on the road.

I think it was the first time I ever wanted DC to win. Fixture congestion might help us for once!

That schedule is absolutely NUTS. Couldn't be happening to a nicer bunch.

We'll see. They chose to actually play this out, unlike our team. If they have a first round flameout this year in the playoffs... well then they'd still have accomplished more than we did last year in the same situation. If they don't make the playoffs at all, then you're right.

It's not quite like our situation last year where we had just played an extra 5 games in SuperLiga going into the CCL games, so we were already tired and looking at the prospect of becoming more worn down as we entered the final stretch.

I'm glad DC has this tough stretch coming up. I just wish TFC had prevailed and faced the same extra games.

Looks like we're still the only MLS team to win Superliga.

I would be shocked if Osario does not get fired after tonights match. The team was so unorganized it's no surprise they are in last place.

Also I couldn't be any happier that fire lost, the one thing that surprised me though was no extra time. I didn't realize they changed the rules.

Those of us on the East coast appreciate Barcelona's starting the A team last night, so that we were able to see Messi et al in the first half and then get to bed at a reasonable hour. Credit to Seattle for playing the game like a friendly and not resorting to a hacking defense, which would have been their only chance to slow down Messi.

Except that you're not remembering right. When we played the SuperLiga last year, we were given that stretch away from playing MLS games. DC United, from July 1st through August 31st this year, will play 14 games. From July 1st through August 31st last year, we played 15. So no ... the situation's pretty much the same. To continue the theme, in September of last year, while we were making a mockery out of ourselves at home to Joe freakin Public, we played all of 5 games. United will be playing 6. So through the course of the three months last year and this, we'll have both played the same amount.
That second goal that RBNY gave up ... holy crap.

And yes, even though I don't care for the SuperLiga, the fact that the Fire lost (two PKs didn't even hit the net!) just made me smile. :D

    Red Bulls Eliminated
By Steve Goff | August 5, 2009; 9:55 PM ET

I've found it's impossible to read this piece from Goff without smiling...if not outright laughing!

After embarrassing themselves and the league for months, the unlova-Bulls now officially have nothing to play for.

Eliminated from the U.S. Open Cup in the preliminary stage and on course for perhaps the worst league performance in MLS history, New York was ushered out of the CONCACAF Champions League on Wednesday night by something called W Connection in front of tens of dozens at Giants Stadium (what, Hackensack High School wasn't available?).

The score of the match was 2-1 for the Trinidad club, the two-leg aggregate count was 4-3. As far as I can tell, W Connection had never won a CONCACAF series in its 23-year history.

    :D

RBNY are really blowing it. This should be a time to begin building momentum towards the opening of their new stadium. As it is, they are working overtime making themselves irrelevant. Fun to watch for us Revs fans, but not great for the league...
