Other thread was at 500 posts, time for a new one.

    Standings as of today...
    Also, according to Goff:
He goes on to say that they're definitely interested in the 20-year old Habarugira, who was part of the Anderlecht system.

    McBride Sidelined

By Steve Goff | July 17, 2009; 4:14 PM ET

Chicago forward Brian McBride will miss four to six weeks after undergoing surgery today to repair a labral tear in his right shoulder. He is the Fire's leading scorer with six goals and has played every minute of 16 league matches. McBride scored Wednesday against New England in a 2-1 SuperLiga semifinal victory. The shoulder, however, has been a chronic problem and needed to be addressed at this time

That's going to really hurt them. He is a man among boys in that club.

    It's worse than that:

"Instead of missing four to six weeks, Chicago star Brian McBride will be sidelined three to four months! Doctors made that determination after performing surgery on his shoulder today. The new timetable means he is likely to miss the rest of the regular season -- a devastating blow to the first-place Fire."

Toronto project to get 43 points for the season meaning the REVs would need 44 to get into the top 8. 27 points in 16 games or 1.7 points per game. Let the winning commence.

[EDIT] I think this means we need to finish the season

    9-0-7
    8-3-5
    7-6-3
    or
    6-9-1

If we lose today, we're looking at a 2005-esque 1.8 points per game the rest of the way. I think making the playoffs, from where they are, will be an amazing achievement.

Down though American History there have been times when the wounded have been roused from their hospital beds, given a weapon and put back into the line during times of crisis---and they helped win the day. If they could do that with life and the Country's future was on the line--our Revs can---and will. UP THE REVOLUTION. :p

Did anyone else catch that Gregory Richardson, formerly of Joe Public, is now playing for Carolina Railhawks? I know that there is a danger in assuming too much from watching him play (in MLS) once, but is there anyone who wouldn't drop one of our current players to pick him up?

I truly hope you'll get to stick your tongue out at me by the end of the season. If you're done having your fun, I have to ask. Do you really think this team, even if healthy (including Twellman) is as good as that 2005 team?

Clearly, by the way I phrased the question, I do not.

I know they have to play the games so we will have to wait an see. But I think that you have to realistically look at their situation and recognize the dire predicament they are in.

SN's speech at the Inaugural Season Ticket Holder Event still sticks with me. IIRC, he did not speak about winning much but rather about how we'd always see the team give their all on the field. I think he sensed how dire his injury situation was and that he needed more depth to have a chance. Osei's been an addition but Assengue is a project an EJ is probably too little too late.

A few more loses and we should start thinking about who we want to develop for the future, assuming the injury situation even gives us any choices.

I stick my tongue out beacuse about the only thing I know to do right now with all our injuries is to keep my sense of humor. :D.

In answer your question: I don't know if the 09 Roster is better than the 05 because we've yet to see a healthy 09 Roster play a match. I know the league has evolved since 09 and I think the Rev roster has evolved as well. How they would play as a unit if healthy is pure conjecture. Your venturing a guess. No Problemmo. For me I'm with holding judgment till I have the actual data of seeing them play---which may not happen.

I do think with the addition of Janny, healthy Twellman, our speed on the wings and a very solid defensive corps in front of Reis this team is as good as any in MLS---but that pure speculation because that group has yet to see the field for a match.

FWIW, my expectations for this season have been reduced a lot because of the injury situation. I'm not ready to throw in the towel on our chances of getting to the playoffs and making a run to the Cup but I see little signs this Roster can get and stay healthy this season. Frankly, if I could see a completely healthy 09 starting eleven (with healthy principle subs) play a few matches before the end of the season i'd be satisfied.

Anyone who could even entertain this as a serious question is massively deluded. It's an insult to the 2005 team to put the 2009 team (even the magical fairyland hypothetical healthy one) in the same sentence as one of the best MLS teams in the last 5 years.

Probably deserves its own thread.

    Link at end...

David Beckham confronted a fan sitting in a section where negative banners about the Los Angeles Galaxy player were displayed during Beckham's first home game of the season Sunday night.

As Beckham left the field at halftime, he went over to the section where one of the team's support groups holds court and appeared to shout something. The fan jumped down from the seating section and was subdued by security before being escorted off the field.

Fans in the L.A. Riot Squad section were holding up Beckham's jersey and beating it. One of their homemade signs read,"Go home fraud" while another said,"23: Repent."

It was all part of a rough reception for Beckham, who missed the first half of the Major League Soccer season while he was on a five-month loan to AC Milan, the team that played the Galaxy on Sunday.

The English star was booed more than cheered during introductions, and he was booed for a while the first several times he touched the ball.

Boos were mixed with cheers when Beckham assisted on the Galaxy's game-tying goal in the 30th minute.

He will only play six more home games this season.

Earlier this year, Beckham said he wanted to remain with the Italian club rather than return to the Galaxy because he believed the level of play was much better in Europe .

Basically, they are saying that the president of Livorno, Aldo Spinelli, confirmed the "possible negotiation"--how's that for vagueness? with Dononvan. They call him "Thimoty" (not even Timothy?). He says that LD has been on his radar screen since he was 18. The issue isn't the transfer price, but he hopes a sponsor can help with the funding.

I babelfished some of the comments about Donovan, and found it mildly amusing so I thought I would share.

    | 22 Wednesdays July 2009, 08:06
Donovan the fact that is American is not a merit title it indeed. If then it takes it to Spino because it wants to yield Diamonds it can also starsene to letìa with Beckham. If instead it arrives to riforzare the centrocampo very creed comes but that in order to support our splendid tridente us servant more mastiff (a Spino tightens for Obodo instead thinking next to the Yankee and the poles of the sponsors).

    Optimal Donovan purchase.

    | 21 tuesdays July 2009, 20:25
Donovan. also living in the “S.Franciso Area”, it does not mean that it is understood of soccer in seeing to play a soccer player. As he is not said that the Germans understand some, such to discard. The player who, from gross ITALIAN human, I have seen to play not in confederations the Cup (as it would be reductive), but in many other occasions, it has made to understand me (for who has played to soccer from young person, in the Rome and Naples juvenile) that a lot interesting has a management ball, technical of base, great temperament (does not put itself to us against to Beckam thus. .tanto in order making.) and a lot other. Seeing scempi in our national one (exactly), the good Donovan (with eventual returns in within sponsor) can make its beautiful figure in a not pretenziosa public square like Livorno! Salutes.

    | 21 tuesdays July 2009, 19:53
I would see It well to Donovan in the Padova. With he they could head for the jump directed in To

    | 21 tuesdays July 2009, 19:49
Donovan is a mediocre one! Certainly I have seen that it to play Donovan! I follow from first years 2000 when I lived in the saint Francisco Bay Area! Donovan is a mediocre one. A Pellisser (great player) is worth 10 Donavan times! It has been discarded in Germany! But this does not remove that or a positive arrival for the system Italian soccer. Mr. Donovan, welcome to the Beautiful Country.

    | 21 tuesdays July 2009, 19:41
Donovan Donovan is from Italian series b or c? Lasciamo to lose, knows to me that you have not never seen it to play truly ..... I do not say that he is a champion, but sure, seen the situation of Italian soccer, it is sure from series To and I say to you that if were Italian, it was pure in national, approval who we now have between the blueta (Pepper, Ring dove, Iaquinta, etc .....).

We should sign those guys Pepper and Ring Dove! They must be good players if they play in "Series To" :D

Whatever happened to that guy Hans Wolvner something-or-other who used to post on BS but couldn't write in English so he would cut/paste BabelFish translations? Now that was some funny stuff! I think he called me a "chimp chewer" once!
