This owner already sounds 100x better than anyone DC United has ever had at the helm.

"We are going to spend as much money as possible on players and also set up cross team deals between the Falcons and Atlana's MLS franchise."

    I'm in love.

    Is it so bad though?

Yea yea turf, but ******** it, it's one of the most beautiful stadium concepts I have ever seen.

There are two in the crowd, supporting the new team announcement.

Massive City supporter's group in Columbus put it out. There's gonna be some lovely smack rivalry between SGs with those two for awhile.

I find it a little convenient that a supporters group (sporting Philadelphia Union colors, incidentally) organically sprang forth into being in Atlanta four months prior to yesterday's announcement. Furthermore, at first glance, it seems to be a well funded organization for being so young.

*I stand corrected, the group was started in November 2013... six months ago.

I just want to kick this guy in the junk:
If your fandom for a certain team is based on politics in a foreign country 25 years ago, kill yourself.

Barcelona? I mean many teams have heavy doses of politics involved in their fan base.

My point stands. Gushing over Barcelona as a symbol of liberal values in Spain during the Franco years is painfully silly.

If you want to be brutally honest, and sports in no place for brutal honesty, there is really no non-silly reason to be a fan of one team over another.

Part of the reason I'm a fan of the Blue Jays is because I have fond memories of my dad taking me to games when I was a kid. I think a lot of people are fans of certain teams because they had similar experiences.

On the other hand, picking a team based on some abstract notion like "Liverpool was anti-Thatcher in the 80's" seems a bit more eye-roll worthy.

No way. How is saying I like a certain team because of the way they play a silly reason? I derive entertainment and joy from said team, that's silly? I grew up watching this team with my dad/grandad/aunt/whatever and we we bonded together through the team? These are reasonable choices.

What Potowmac is talking about is a guy way too far up his own ass. If a Liverpudlian tried spouting off like this guy, he would be run out of the stadium, never mind some goof by way of Greenpoint.

Not trying to chew out song219 here, just butting in, which is my way.

Heck, if you're a Liverpool fan because you grew up working class there in the 80's and the team was a rallying point for your family during tough economic times or whatever, I get it.

But some upper-middle class 20-something twat from NYC using Liverpool's history to jerk off to the class stuggle? No.

That is still a matter of opinion although probably held by a majority. The other view is that you are still emotionally hanging on to your childhood & your parents past a time where you should have grown past such things.
