Donovan to Bayern Munich. Should be interesting. Leaving LA, my guess is for good, even though I am not really a big fan of him.

For some reason, being a whiny girl disqualifies me from liking anyone. Brett Favre, Ronaldo, whoever it may be- being a whiny girl means I root for you to lose.

It seems the common thread here is everyone hates Juve.

He's 26 now, as compared to his first stint in Germany when he was only a teenager. I've never figured out why people hate on Donovan so much, he's only one of the top players the US has EVER produced.

Big deal? His effort on loan for Bayern the rest of this season will say much more about his career legacy than anything he did with Leverkusen. If he flops this time, he'll be remembered as a great national team player, but who could never make it abroad. If he succeeds, depending on the level, he could be the greatest US player ever.

Greatest player for U.S.??? Hellll no, him and Beasley are past their prime at 26, which is pretty weird. I honestly don't think he or Beasley will be in the starting 11 in South Africa, unless Bradley is a tool and plays it safe. Donovan is soft, he dissapears from games, I can't wait till he embarasses himself so he gets the hell off the U.S. NT. It was hilarious listening to the fans in Chicago at the Brazil friendly last year, priceless :D

US should bring in the young guys that played last night full time. Edu, Adu, Kljestan, Altidore.

However while I am not a huge Donovan fan, I disagree with Footyfan and I think should be starting in South Africa.

    Re: FSU Transfers: Winter 08/09

Altidore will be a starter in South Africa and LandyCakes will probably pair with him cause there's no one ready to replace him just yet, which is dissapointing, the sooner he turns into a really good sub for the U.S. the better.

I feel that him and Beasley don't handle the pressure of being the go-to players or something, when they were young and could just go out there and play without worries they were brilliant at times (WC 2002 they were real nice). Beasley looks like he developed the Ronaldinho syndrome and forgot how to run at speed. He's so pedestrian now, just watch. Watch him and Donovan next time with no bias, pretend its the first time your seeing them play, and let me know what you think ;)

I doubt Altidore will start, he might, but I think Ching will probably play as he is a much better sole striker. Anyway, calling Donovan past his prime, I guess you guys are just trying to balance out the guys in the US forum who think Freddy Adu is already Pele. Until this generation, very few American players spent several seasons in Europe. John Harkes had 4, Joe Max-Moore had like 5 and Caligiuri had maybe 3. Brian McBride and Claudio Reyna(who right now is gets my vote for #1 US Player ever) were the first to make it an extended vacation.

This is beyond off topic and I don't want to get in trouble for going down the rabbit hole again.

Americans and their soccer and other crap I think. It seems to make this thread the most on subject thread here.

I didn't make the title though.

My guess is that they cannot afford the 30 million pound fee to make his transfer permanent. He's a goner by the summer, if not winter.

Who does he belong to at the moment? TSI, West Ham, or some other entity that I missed?

I think he still belongs to his agent. They never did figure that whole thing out.

Is Guzan being groomed for the future possibly, or is he just filling up space?

We need to start producing midfielders instead of goalies, seriously. We have all the tools to become a great footy nation apart from technical skill.

I remember predicting that the U.S. would win the WC by 2024.
