You guys need to check out Jon Spencer Blues Explosion. These guys hit their height in the mid 90's...but they clearly influenced alot of bands you guys are talking about on this thread. There from NYC too...in the video..it looks like he's walking in Queens. he also says..."new york city" in almost every single song on this album. I love it.
i saw jon spencer blues explosion in the mid-90s with africa bambatta opening up in a huge tent in battery park! good show...IT'S BLUES POWER!!!
if you like other bands with "black" in their name...also check out: Black Heart Percession The Black Kids Frank Black
The Black Angels opened up for the Black Keys in NYC,they were pretty good. And Black Rebel Motorcycle Club(real good band) opened for Kings of Leon in NYC<<<a great freaking band! lolol
Black Kids are cool. Try Black Tambourine too. Also, there's this little band from Birmingham called Black Sabbath. They're a bit naff.
since we're on the subject of bands w/ "black" in the name, how about--the black crowes, black flag, black oak arkansas, black label society, black grape, black uhuru, black 47...
haha i dont know if i reading into that too much, but its kind of funny. and yeah i saw them about 3 or 4 years ago, they are just alright. and adding to the black name bands. Black Eyes (weird shit)
Hahaha I think that was a subconscious thing on my part lol. I like a few of their songs and thought they were pretty good on Letterman last summer.
Any fans of Southern Rock? I love me some Skynyrd and Allman Bro's.Nowadays Gov't Mule and Kings of Leon keep that sound alive.
Southpaw how old are you ?...man you fit in perfect with my friends... I've seen the Brothers around 30 times..guyattheendofthebar used to have a "connection" with some people at the Beacon..so we've seen the Bros and Black Crowes..a lot ever hear of Steve Earle ?..or Ryan Adams ?
Haha im 26 and I believe I was born in the wrong time period lol,and many people agree.I saw Gov't Mule with Wolfmother in Brooklyn 2 years ago, they were a really good live band.. I have never heard of the other two.I have to check them out.
he really is...he stopped boozing as much..which is good..better shows Southpaw...go on You Tube..and check out a song called New York..just a warning...you'll get choked up...he shot the video..a day or two before 9/11..
Wow yea I have to check that out.I watch stuff like that and first I get really sad then it changes to me wanting to carpet bomb certain countries.
in the spirit of the borough boys...how many bands can you thinkmof with "boys" in the name---beastie boys, dead boys, ghetto boys, oakridge boys, blind boys of alabama, london quire boys(80's reference), soggy bottom boys...
