i did because NASCAR was blocking Family Guy and the likes.

i liked all the winners, but there needed to be more "I drink your milkshake" jokes.

I watched up until the Bourne movies won for sound, then I shut it off. All of the awards up to that point except for Cottilard had me shocked. How on Earth does Tilda Swinton get Supporting Actress when Blanchett won practically every other award? It was a farcical ceremony, another fine example of the Academy's annual cock-stroke. I wish for once they'd stop giving awards to people because they're older than everyone else or because of their relatively new "hip" status on the scene. Juno getting nominated for Best Picture? I loved the movie but there is no way in hell that's one of the top 5 films of 2007.

The movies were substandard this year.

The following movie still was taken from:

    • There Will Be Blood
    • No Country For Old Men
    • Sweeney Todd The Demon Barber of Fleet Street
    • Eastern Promises
    • American Gangster
    • Grindhouse
    • Saw IV

Doesn't matter -- no one watched any of them or the Oscars :D

I didn't see all the movies nominated for the best picture or acting categories this year, which I usually do for the most part. But by far Juno did not deserve to be nominated for best picture let alone win anything. Original screenplay over Lars and the Real Girl and Micheal Clayton? WTH. The best award class was by far the Best Actor category, all of them deserved the award IMO.

I personally thought Supporting Actress was stacked. Blanchett'd Dylan was phenomenal, Amy Ryan portrayed the most realistic Bostonian I've seen on film, the little girl in Atonement made the film, Tilda Swinton doing a great American accent (that's about it), and Ruby Dee keeping a bad ass in check.

I want to know how Control didn't even get a nomination for adapted screenplay or how This Is England didn't even get looked at. Unless it's a multi-million dollar blockbuster (Atonement), it'll never get recognized.

I saw those ones. No interest in Grindhouse, Saw IV. Wanting to see American gangster

And if they followed the box office totals..............it would be ridiculous. Very rarely are the best "made" movies (an example of the art)the biggest money makers, and when they are, they sweep. (I.E Titanic, LOTR)

Juno was a worthwhile nod. I objected to Michael Clayton.

Just wondering why? I thought it was a little slow at first but it got great as it went on imo.

Michael Clayton is a thinking man's movie. It's not slow if you're paying attention the whole time. I actually chose it for my "mise en scéne" paper that's due tomorrow:)

    Fantastic film.

Well if it is a thinking man's movie how did you understand it? :p

I enjoyed it and thought it was a great film. I knew of the five films selected it was probably the least likely to win Best Picture. I thought 3:10 to Yuma was a better film. I am not outraged that it was nominated. It was a worthy nomination, most Oscar nominations are.

If I were to have voted I would've voted for Atonement. I have a penchant for great epic romantic films, especially tragedies, (Doctor Zhivago, Out of Africa, Before Sunrise, Romeo & Juliet, Casablanca, Gone With The Wind) .

What made No Country For Old Men was the lack of any musical score. I think that sealed the deal for that movie. The musical score in Atonement was one of the reasons I loved it so much.

I didn't see 3:10 to Yuma, It's on my netflix queue. I just saw into the Wild, IMO my favorite movie of the year and Emilie Hirsch should have been nominated, as should have Eddie Vedder. I'm buying the DVD and the Soundtrack tomorrow.

This is where I am obligated to quote Ty Burr and say I think movies are best seen on a large screen where the images are nearly hallucinogenic. I think Jon Stewart was very funny when he joked about watching Lawrence of Arabia on his iPod.

For those interested Rock N' Roll High School is showing tonight at 5:00pm, 7:15 & 10:00 at the brattle.
