Not really OCSC news, but local product Graham Zusi from Longwood, basically beat FC Dallas by himself tonight (with a little help from Sporting KC). It was awesome. http://www.mlssoccer.com/videos?catid=1822&id=15841
Wow. And he was this close to a hat trick. Hartman misplayed that punchout at 17', and Zusi was two or three bad bounces between Hartman's paws and the woodwork away from a third.
Orlando City (16-3-6) - which by the way no longer employs former Rhinos/Amerks owner Steve Donner as of this summer (he resigned for personal reasons, he told me via e-mail). http://blogs.democratandchronicle.com/devo/2011/09/02/orlando-city-cleans-up-in-usl-top-awards/
Interesting - I hadn't seen Steve at recent matches but just assumed he was hanging out in a different part of the stadium!!
Any word at all coming out about the reasons for Donner's departure from Orlando after a single season?
Well, regardless of the reason, it was Donner that was the organization's strongest tie to USL management right? Damn it's just so hard to get past the thought of one really tremendous derby developing between FTL, Tampons, and MickeyLand..........
Trust me, you won't find anybody more derisive of Mickey Rat Land than those who live around Mickey Rat Land. Including those who work at Mickey Rat Land. (Though I don't expect them to speak up about it publicly, since they'd lose their job. )
Rays....can't you just look at the Cascadia Cup and envision the rivalry that could develop between the three Florida teams though??? Man oh man, if we were all in the same league I think there would be real potential. Orlando showed they are definitely not a D3 organization this year, there has to be some way to break those ties to Holt and Big Papa now that Donner is out of the picture LOL...................
I seriously contemplated pushing something with a "rat" theme when considering the name and look of The Ruckus. A logo featurng a nasty, rodent-like character. Calling our section "The Rat's Nest", etc... I think, in the end, we made the right choices. It would be be great to play FTL, Tampa Bay reguarly. It would be epic.
I've never been against that idea. In fact, I actually had the balls to push the NASL to Steve Donner. Having the in-state rivalry somehow will be a benefit to us all.
The whole USL-Pro was a cluster********, 2 former D2 teams, the rest D3 teams and some PDL teams, not surprised of Orlando's success.
What did Donner do, just laugh at you probably, right? LOL Seriously though, anyone pushed it to Rawlins or any other OCSC top management?
Most of us here in Tampa land are all for you guys joining the NASL. For alot of reasons. Get it done and let's prove what soccer in Florida is all about.
