You ARE a fanatic Dammit! Over 5,000 is not bad. It was coming down big time up until about 6:30. I got soaked in the parking lot. It was really bad out there until just before kick-off. Perfectly understandable if many chose to watch the match on the tube. I don't think O.C. has anything to worry about regarding attendance.
Considering how many Euro-philes live in the area and those that prefer to watch things like the Euro, I am surprised that even 5k showed up. Heck MLS has mostly given up to competing against things like the 2012 Euro. Good job Orlando!
Spare me. If you think MLS couldn't have drawn this weekend, please. After years of hearing Europoseurs and fanboys bitch about them not standing down for important FIFA dates, they do it, and all of a sudden it's fear. Okay, gotcha.
Actually, considering the complete giant black hole that the last month has been in MLS, I am not really sure why MLS did it. Its going to be interesting seeing MLS jump start its season when it starts back up. Okay back to Orlando attendance.
I'd still like to build to the day where people come and brave the rain. It was nasty for some time Saturday, then it broke right before the gates opened, and never threatened again.
I didn't hear announced attendance at the game last night. I eyeballed it around 6k... 6 pm is an awkward time for a game and - lots of fathers day stuff going on as well..
Probably because they've recently become more mindful of FIFA dates. Which was what I said in the first place. A handful of MLS players were with the USMNT for their games, but you don't know how many would be when you made the schedule. Some others were with other international teams in the region (and out of it) for qualifying during this period. Only one (Keane) was at Euro, and MLS not only played this weekend up against Euro, they'll play this weekend while it's going on and next weekend (though not against the final on Sunday the 1st). And the world kept on spinning. Didn't seem to have a huge problem. Week 15 averaged 18,095. Games were on television. Some teams had played in the USOC in the interim. In 2010, they stood down for the World Cup group stage, which also makes sense, after years of playing through it.
Bad weather + weekday game. If it's our lowest attendance of the year, it's still a big improvement. And it's still more than the Rowdies have legit done all year. Now go back to crying to mommy over how badly Kenn's been owning you in your own forum.
This does bring up an interesting opportunity to revisit what people said prior to the season, though. With four games remaining, we have a fairly good idea of the general range where Orlando's average announced attendance for the regular season will end up. Haven't seen that guy lately, thankfully. Slightly low. You were right to be cautiously optimistic. You weren't off by much, but a little on the low side. Almost uncanny, as we'll see. No bad. Almost there. Bob also was a little low. That hasn't happened. Still not far off. Too high. They announced 8,421, so, no. And they will likely clear that. After eight home games in 2012, Orlando City's average is 6,544, tops in the league (again) and about 11% higher than after eight home games a year ago. They've done really, really well, and shown that they can consistently draw people. That's great. But it would have been really unlikely they'd have gone from 5,265 to 11,000. Or even 8,000. Unrealistic.
Not if Orlando is in MLS in 5 years... unless maybe you are aiming for Colorado or Chivas like success.
Great post Kenntomasch. There's alot of buzz about tonight's match (City vs. Rochester, 7/14/12). I hope our average goes up.
Are we really that good or are they that bad ? That was some of the best soccer this season. Sorry to see Griffin gone- Lopez showed some promise...
