So the team gave away a few hundred more tickets for this game than last years home opener. Looks like you guys are in for a very similar regular season average of mid 5k ish. Still very, very good for any lower division soccer. Even if half of em are giveaways. I'm sorry, I just like the word giveaway. Has a nice ring to it. Grats on the nice opener crowd. Too bad our team is languishing in St. Pete rather than playing in Tampa. Our own 8k plus home opener seems like a long time ago right now. May we meet in the U.S. Open Cup and show MLS that both of our fan bases have what it takes.
Thanks, Good luck to you guys, I think a lot of us were disappointed when we heard 10,000 plus after 1st day and than we really get 8k
8 thousand fans is still great for a 3rd Division team. I'm happy when any American soccer team does well. I'll boo Orlando City SC if we play you guys in the US Open Cup. But,I want too see your team do well as a buisness.
Personally I would've been disappointed if we did below last year's opener. I'll take how we did, and push for a shallower bell curve from here. I'm aiming for a 6,000 season average.
I wonder what kind of push there will be for the Saturday 4/28 match? Looking at the drop off from the 1st to 2nd match last year, I would think attendance could be between 7000-8000. I'm pretty sure at least 10 of my friends are going. I Also asked them to invite a friend or two.
I don't think so Speed. They sold a boatload of tickets leading up to this match. There was alot of people there on Sunday. The team could have claimed 10,000 and I don't think anyone would have disputed it. There might have been some promotional giveaways on the radio. But not as much as you think. Last season I saw, from time to time, SG Leaders walking around with a handfull of tickets. Not this season. I think they sold 8,000 plus tickets. Sooner or later, you're going to have to accept the fact that this dump old D-3 team is doing pretty well.
If you say so. I was there for the final last year and comparing the crowds between that game and your home opener this season it looked like 7 or 8k, so seemed accurate. That wasn't 10k if the championship game was 11k+. The entire lower bowl was basically full for that game, not nearly the case for this game. Still great attendance, regardless.
April 28 is actually being sold as "Faith and Family Night". Christian music, likely church groups, a post-match testimonial by pro wrestler-turned-minister Marc Mero (Johnny B. Badd).
You're right Speed. Saying the team could have claimed 10,000 and no one would have noticed was a bit much. My bad.
rofl I honestly feel for you guys regarding this crap. Have fun in the SG sections. Having the groups at games is one thing, but if they play christian music over the loud speakers and have some jerk preach at half time? I'd probably start throwing shit.
Theres some unwritten rule that if you joined BS before the 2002 WC, you can say whatever you want. Thats basically how I have approached being a mod.
Not fair. I wasn't even aware of this "Internet" thing until last year . Tonight will be a good test of baseline attendance...we'll see how it goes.
shit balls wank bastard just seeing if the filter works.... 7899 at the match tonight. good numbers again Mikey
Well, I'll allow a little more leeway than usual but not much. I'm watching. Good job Orlando! You did almost as good as Colorado tonight.
Looking around the stands last night I would have guessed there was more than 8,000. Definitely a good crowd. May 5th is going to be interesting, hopefully we can keep bringing in 7K+. The team did a couple promotions with groupon/living social sites for last night's game as well as the 5th if I remember correctly, so that should help.
I also thought it was roughly on-par with the opener. We did very good last night. And I think we can do even better for Cinco de Mayo. Even with...played right, maybe because of...the Magic game that afternoon. (Game 4, 2pm) There was a time when I said Orlando City would outdraw the Rowdies and Strikers combined. What I said back then in hyperbole, right now is a matter of fact.
