Re: City locks up Gallardo, Mechack, Allen Great news. Rays , you know what happened to Stewart? Injured?
Re: City locks up Gallardo, Mechack, Allen I would add some caution that if Orlando continues to do well there is no way they keep these players. I saw that Luke Mullohand just got signed from Wilmington to Minnesota. This will not be the last. Wait until after tonight and see what happens to Orlando's excellent group of players as the NASL and then MLS playoffs come calling. Still its great the team is planning for the future and trying to lock these players up.
Re: City locks up Gallardo, Mechack, Allen put down the crack pipe. no MLS team is going to try for one of your D3 players for a playoff push .... ugh, seriously. the team is made up of MLS cast ofs and never have beens .... it's D3 ... most of the players on MLS teams that came from even the best D2 team (carolina) prove to suck in MLS .... MLS is a whole different ball game from USL(notso)Pro
Re: City locks up Gallardo, Mechack, Allen Does he think there is pro/rel here? Or does he know something about Orlando becoming #20?
Re: City locks up Gallardo, Mechack, Allen You crack me up. Why wouldn't a NASL or MLS team want a decent D3 player for depth? Especially with all the MLS teams trying to stay in the MLS post season AND make it to the next round of CCL. Far fetched? Hardly.
Re: City locks up Gallardo, Mechack, Allen We might coin a new term "D2 snob" for you. Bring the Railhaws down for a game next weekend and we'll see.
Re: City locks up Gallardo, Mechack, Allen D2 teams i am sure would want a few of your players. but an MLS team? uh, no thanks. your team is D3 ... the best players on your team have already washed out of MLS ... an MLS team could take a rock to south america, throw it and hit a better player than is on your team. let's remind ourselves of how your best player from last season (eddie johnson) is doing this season for a struggling expansion team ... oh, what? you say he is barely playing and having no impact whatsoever? yeah ... your players aren't good enough for even MLS reserves ... that is why they play in D3. get over yourself ... your team is the best in D3 ... mostly because it really should be a D2 team but the owners where to wussy to actually step up to the plate and meet the USSF requirements. you get no bonus points for beating up on lesser competition.
Re: City locks up Gallardo, Mechack, Allen This is addressed to Barcelona, regarding two of the last three Champions League finals, correct? While you ponder that, go p!ss on someone else's parade while we celebrate regardless of who would or wouldn't want any of our players.
Re: City locks up Gallardo, Mechack, Allen Oy vey! Seriously I started this by saying a NASL team just signed a good USLP player. So why wouldn't any NASL team or possibly a MLS team not sign the best players in D3? No brainer.
Sentinel: Almost everyone coming back http://www.orlandosentinel.com/sports/os-orlando-city-soccer-follow-0905-20110904,0,4378215.story The only ones not under contract are Lawrence Olum and Jamie Watson, and Watson is in talks. Olum is getting credible attention from MLS, and will likely move on.
Re: Sentinel: Almost everyone coming back Idea: One more year, friendlies with Stoke and Preston. Stoke City, Saturday, July 14, 2012 (His birthday).
Re: City locks up Gallardo, Mechack, Allen So according to you our players are complete garbage who have no skill whatsoever. If this is the case then how did we go 2-2 against your mighty MLS teams? We had a goal differential of 0 against these foes so you can't even say that we got lucky in four different matches. Not only that but we beat Newcastle. That's an achievement for any USA soccer team let alone a team of "MLS castoffs and never have beens" as you so eloquently stated. Get your facts straight and then we can have a nice reasonable chat about the true skill level of Orlando City.
Re: City locks up Gallardo, Mechack, Allen Don't go there. It's stupid when WhiteStar Warriors does it with NASL. He gets mocked for it. And it is stupid for anyone else to do it. Friendlies are meaningless and cannot be used to gauge the level of play of anything. Nor can you use them to say you are somehow on the same level as MLS clubs because you beat Toronto in some preseason friendly back in March. No one takes those results seriously. There is a huge difference between the level of USL-Pro and MLS. That is pretty blatant to anyone that can see. Just like there is a huge difference in quality between EPL side Newcastle and your American D3 Orlando City. But yet you beat them in a meaningless friendly. I'll get to that below. No it is not. Achievements in friendlies are meaningless. Kudos for making the fans happy, but in the grand scheme of things, they mean nothing. The Red Bulls went and won the Emirates Cup in England. Does that make them better than Arsenal or PSG? It's didn't help them in MLS. CCL league results? Those you can read into. Those games count. But never read anything into friendlies. Never. The KC Wizards once beat Man Utd with only 10 men in a friendly. Yes, D3 is mostly full of MLS castoffs, young players looking to get some notice from bigger clubs, and journeymen who will never make it in better leagues. There is nothing wrong with saying that because it is the truth. It's Div. III! Most of the players are making little money. They should be commended for playing for the love of the game. But it's American Third Division soccer. It is what it is. SoccerPrime is right. There are more than a few D3 players who will find their way into MLS next year. Including a couple of Orlando players. Players should always look to move up and challenge themselves. BTW, congrats on the USL-Pro championship.
Re: City locks up Gallardo, Mechack, Allen Lamar Neagle went from D3 to Seattle last season. Scored a hat trick, MLS player of the week and MLS goal of the week last week. Tommy Heinemann went to the Columbus Crew and is getting time and goals there. Those are just Charleston players. There have already been a couple players that have gone to MLS this season. FCNY player Jhonny Arteaga is now with the Red Bulls, and a couple Harrisburg players bounce between the City Islanders and Philly. I'm sure there will be more players that will fill MLS rosters by the end of their season.
Re: City locks up Gallardo, Mechack, Allen The one thing that I am not understanding is why people are making it seem like there is such a huge difference between US D2 and D3. They are practically the same thing when it comes to the level of play, as of right now! As far as I am concerned, if you are insulting the quality of play of a D3 player right now you are insulting D2 players as well.
Re: City locks up Gallardo, Mechack, Allen Yes, it is pretty much the same group of players below MLS. There is no difference between most D2 and D3 players. It might take 10 years before we see any real difference between D2 and D3. That is if NASL and USL continue to operate each league. Who knows what the future holds and what D2 and D3 will look like then?
Re: City locks up Gallardo, Mechack, Allen If Max Griffin plays at all like he did in Austin, he's getting looks. I know that MLS teams were looking for Aztex tape back in the day. Look at Eddie Johnson; he moved from Aztex to MLS Timbers (though he's not getting minutes this season). Congrats to the players and coaches on the championship.
