A red card going into extra time would have been nice...

That's funny because I think most RUssian fans are thinking the same thing.

Especially with the guy who would have been sent off, but it was a good decision at the end. Although I don't understand why the Netherlands didn't get the ball afterwards.

As I thought watching them against Sweden the other night they have great team speed. Too fast for the Dutch tonight. Shame to go out this way

That's what happens when you rest the team. Now Italy will probably beat Spain

Similar to prior years, it was tactical rigidity that see the Dutch out of this tournament.

Arshavin was behind almost everyone of the key Russian moves. Mark him out of the game and you slice off the head of the Russian attack.

Unfortunately, Van Basten (like many Dutch managers before him) was unable to put his ego to the side and discard the 4-2-3-1 which had led him to such success in the group stage.

Not inserting Robben into this game was criminal as well. Van Persie was garbage, and the fact that his hair remained perfectly gelled as the final whistle blew spoke volumes over his workrate throughout (non-existant).

The only player who comes out of this match with credit for my money is Nigel, who was tireless in his workrate.

van basten clearly outcoached in this one

    b rock, right on.

the dutch effort overall was poor. the middle of the field failed them. with all the luck on set pieces, they needed to go down the wings and cross for horse face. can't play short, tricky passes through the middle on a counter-attacking team. coaching 101.

Apparently he was hurt in training and not available.

Oranje were garbage - no inspiration or perspiration, clearly peaked too early. Oh well, full credit to the Russians for the win, they fully deserved it. Man I wish Hiddink were coaching Oranje again. :(

Robben was hurt and not available for this match. I don't think the formation was to blame. We knew all along that our back line was eventually going to be a problem and it was. The final 15 minutes were telling. Russia still had pace, we did not.

If I remember how things go correctly, this thread could soon spiral out of control. So before that happens, I'd just like to remind people no personal attacks, no foul language and respect each other's opinions. :)

What can I say? I'm feeling like shit atm. Deserved win for the Russians, no doubt. But where the ******** was Oranje? Where the ******** was the marking on Arshavin? And where the ******** was the defense on the same guy's passes?

Great group stage. But in the end it means jack shit.

I'm never going to get used to this. Ever. Sucks to be an Oranje fan.

Credit to the Russians and Guus. Well deserved. Now go on and win the whole frigging thing.

Why, you don't think that Russia can take on Italy / Spain?
