SECOND ROUND– Tuesday, May 22 USASA Region IV Club (TBD)/Kitsap Pumas (PDL) Winner at Wilmington Hammerheads (USL PRO): Legion Sports Complex; Wilmington, N.C.; 7 p.m. ET _________________________ WE ARE LEGION!
So, it's Cal FC coming to Wilmington with the winner to take on the Portland Timbers. If CFC wins they go to Portland and if the Hammers pull it out, the Timbers come here. http://www.uslsoccer.com/home/626979.html
Looks like the Timbers are the host of the next game regarless of who wins tomorrow night. "The potential Wilmington Hammerheads/Portland Timbers match has been moved from Wilmington to Portland and the date has changed to May 30, meaning the Timbers are guaranteed a home game in Round 3." http://thecup.us/us-open-cup-third-...el-for-round-3-2-pdl-clubs-with-shot-to-host/
Just this press release.... A combination of match congestion and exhaustion. I hope the Hammers got something (money, loan considerations, etc...) out of this. http://blog.oregonlive.com/timbers/...tml?utm_source=twitterfeed&utm_medium=twitter
Wow! Really? Wilmington choosing not to host Portland at Legion. I know we can beat any club at home! What a dissapoinment..... for me that would have probably been the best match of the season.
About the Legion Stadium advantage... TheCup.US tweeted this stat yesterday about the Hammerheads home/road splits in the Tournament. "TheCup.us @usopencup The @Wilmhammerheads have hosted 17 of 23 all-time @USOpenCup matches (13-9-1 overall, 13-4-0 at home, 0-5-1 away, 1 draw = PK win vs CAR)
Man, that was ugly. But to be fair, Cal FC is the best team I've seen at Legion this year. Congrats to them.
The Star News write-up is out, and here is Coach Irving's take on the CalFC game... http://www.starnewsonline.com/article/20120522/ARTICLES/120529891
