    According to this website:

    http://www.sport.be/fr/football/uefacup/statgame.html?comp=2464&game=117116

Gooch is expected to be in the starting lineup as Standard Liege travel to Stuttgart for their final UEFA Cup group stage game. The game is far more important for Stuttgart, who are tied w Sampdoria for 3rd place, than it is for Standard - who have advanced and are 3 points ahead of Seville. Standard clinches 1st in the group (and a better seed for the knockout stage next year) with a tie or if Seville drops any points on the road at Sampdoria.

    Standard - 9 pts
    Sevilla - 6 pts
    Stuttgart - 4 pts
    Sampdoria - 4 pts
    Partizan - 0 pts

I'm a bit surprised Onyewu is expected to start as the Jupiler Ligue has one more round of games this weekend before the holiday break and Standard trails 1st place Anderlecht by 4 points.

Depending on who you believe this will be either A) just another game as Gooch and Standard's big happy family wrap up the fall season and gear up for a succesful UEFA Cup campaign and defend their Jupiler League title in the spring, or B) definitively, positively, lead-pipe-cinch-and-take-it-to-the-bank Gooch's last game w Standard in European competition as he is sold to some probably French team for a really big bag of snails.

He is probably playing because there are scouts at the game to watch him and possibly try and sign him. His agent said there are teams in Spain and Italy that are still looking at him but havent put forth a bid yet, and this is their last chance to see him against good competition.

Here is the link to the story where his agent said interest in the UK and Spain is still there.

Perfect start for me: Stuttgart takes the lead, but it isn't Onyewu's fault!

Gooch seems to be marking Gomez straight up

Yeah, I was about to say the same. Whenever Gomez is getting the ball or showing for it, Gooch is quickly moving up to mark him, and Liege's central midfielders drop back into fill the gap Onyewu is leaving. Guess the Liege coaches have decided not to let Gomez overpower them to score.

Sweet sequence for Gooch there. Cleans up a mess in the box, then moves forward and makes a decent pass to Mbokani, I think.

I think Onyewu as done pretty well, but Liege is getting worked in the midfield a bit.

Listening to this guy on the English commentary pronouncing Träsch is also fun.

I'm pretty sure Standard is still playing a 4-man backline but without their usual starting fullbacks. Goreux is in for Marcos Cammozato (sp?) on right with Mulemo in for Dante on the left.

On the first goal Mulemo allowed way too much space allowing Khedira to score with a close in angled shot from the right. But most of Standard's defense, including Gooch, was a bit lax there as they allowed Stuttgart to play the ball back and forth from post to post not far outside the penalty area before the goal. To Mulemo's credit he blocked a hard shot off the line when he was guarding the near post on a later corner kick.

I wonder if Gooch and Sarr are drifting out a bit more than usually would to help the fullbacks.

The only offensive highlight I noticed from Gooch was when he knocked down Hitzlsperger in front of Stuttgart's goalmouth. Come on Gooch, if you're knocking someone down make sure it's that Lehmann jerk!

Ugh. What horrendous defense. Hopefully Gooch's suitors weren't watching on that play.

Well, Gooch didn't get the vital clearance on the sequence that led to Stuttgart's second.
