    OK, going along with the other cafe's in the French forum, I decided to try out a Lyon thread. I had the fortune of attending a Lyon match (v. Liile) this fall on my honeymoon! So now I try to follow what I can but seeing that I am not a fluent french speaker, it is sometimes challening. So if you have any info, please post!

    It WILL be hard for you to get info on them, if you don't speak French...trust me....

    Love him or hate him he IS is the greatest French club president we have today. Took a club in the 2nd division who had a modest budget and turned them into one of Europe's elite. The man deserves respect. All hail Jean-Michel Aulas ! Or as they call him in Monaco, "HoleAss" :)

    I'm the only American OL fan that I know of, but I can only watch them during the CL, thanks to Canal+. Some of our Canadian friends follow them, I think. I guess I can translate the match reports on the website, but they'd be a bit rough.

    The accent is interchangable in english but not in french.

    Lyonnais is the adjective of Lyon......it would only become lyonnaise if it were agreeing with something in the feminine gender.

    hence olympique from lyon

    Café Lyonnaise would be more correct - however Café is masculine hence
    you say Café Lyonnais.

    Café Lyonnaise would be Coffee from Lyon.......lol :D

    you want to say - Café du Olympique Lyonnais

    How about instead of closing it you try to make it good by contributing as much info as you can. If there is an ASSE thread and no OL one then that is a shame and I'll tell you why. ASSE is a club thats resting on its laurels of the past. How many young people today(people under 30) who dont live in the city of St. Etienne itself are ASSE fans ? My guess is not too many. ASSE hasn't been good in a real long time which means a whole new generation of French football fans probably didnt grow up supporting them. Why because their are tons of bandwagon football fans out there and people love winners. Lyon's 3 straight titles have brought them a whole new generation of fans from all over the country while ASSE havent gained nearly as many fans in the last 15 years or so. They say that OL doesnt have many supporters outside the city of Lyon itself well I guarantee that if they keep playing like they have been, and they continue being a larger club, in less than 20 years from now OL will be more popular than ASSE and just as popular as PSG and OM all over the country. Right now their are young kids in towns all over France who are OL fans and give those kids time to grow and someday OL could be one of the top 3 most popular clubs in all of France. People love winners, they love the clubs who are performing well and that have the best players and OL is doing that in spades right now and thats why their fanbase is only gonna increase. This thread should remain open and someone who speaks French fluently who loves OL should keep it going.

    I've studied there for 2 years. and my grammar is for a better word - complete dog crap! I am from the north east of england! British and proud - mate.

    Ask anyone. Strangely enough i never have faults with my grammatical russian...... :confused: and that's rock solid! :mad:

    Any way you would say de l'....

    mainly because i forgot that you CAN consider Olympique as transcendent. And hence you would forgoe the fact that Olympique has the artcle at the beginning.

    What pisses me off is that I manage to get a level 2 on my French essay.... :rolleyes:

    Yet I still manage basic errors - and in English as well - it aint a strong point for me, I'm completly useless when it comes to grammar.....

    Defender Claudio Cacapa suffered a serious knee injury and may be out the rest of the season. There was talk of Aulas getting rid of Nilmar because when Elber came back they would be over the limit of number of non EU players allowed. Now that Cacapa(Brazilian) is out they dont have to get rid of Nilmar. Wiltord was also taken off the pitch early due to injury during the 1-0 win over Strasbourg.

    How far has Lyon fallen? I know they are the champs for many years in a row, but they also get their top players taken by wealthier clubs.

    So far, they have not fallen at all, since they are 1st in Ligue 1, and 1st in their Champion's league group.

    Everyone in France sees this as a small miracle, considering the number of players they've lost. Add Elber and Caçapa, both out with severe injury, and you wonder how they're doing.

    Seems that Le Guen has found some prodigious unknown players to fill the ranks : Nilmar, Cris, Essien and so on.

    However, I doubt they'll keep this pace during winter. Soon, they'll have more players in hospital than on the pitch.

    Either Ligue 1 is having a down year OR Lyon is extremely deep with talent/excellent talent scouts.

    They've really only had 2 key players taken by bigger teams the last few years. Edmilson to Barcelona and Peggy Luyindula to Marseille and Luyindula wasnt really a big loss because they got guys like Nilmar, Frau and Wiltord. So actually they bring in more good players then they lose them.
