He was especially good in the first half - 2nd half he was on the opposite wing and didn't have the same effect. Hopefully Jordan takes care of him on Saturday. Will be tricky.
Chris Agorsor trialing with RSL now. http://www.mlssoccer.com/news/article/2011/06/14/rsl-looking-reinforce-depleted-squad
They took a while to get that story up. Unlike MLSsoccer.com to let others beat them to the punch (@RSLTribune first reported that the three were on trial, I put it up on tBG soon there after).
Today's inquirer has a Shea Salinas blurb. He's 100% and expects a 3-1 win (now that's... a RIOT!). He says the outgoing coach was popular with the players but that they had to start producing results. The blurb mentions that he was not available for the game at PPL due to a knee sprain and did not make the homecoming trip. It also says that he has played for 3 expansion franchises, San Jose in 2008, the Union in 2010, and Vancouver now.
Sounds like Fred is headed back to Australia when the window re-opens. DCU is granting his request for a free transfer to Melbourne Heart. Can't link the article from my phone.
http://www.washingtonpost.com/blogs...melbourne-heart/2011/06/17/AGbBbwYH_blog.html Fred had said he wanted to go back to Australia in January: http://www.brotherlygame.com/2011/1...eturning-to-the-mls-looking-towards-australia
So are we all agreed that the two players that we will regret losing the most so far are Jacobson and Salinas (if he stays healthy)?
Nice blurb here about how Dallas got Jacobson for some beads and a blanket. FCD Notebook: Jacobson turning into bargain pick-up Jacobson was sort of a peripheral player before David Ferreira got hurt. But since then he's been a major part of how they've continued to succeed. Of the three teams that lost stars (Sounders - Zakuani; RSL - Javi Morales; Dallas; Ferreira) I would argue that Ferreira was the most critical to his team. But I think Dallas has handled the loss better than either of those other teams. Obviously a large part of that is how the coach has adapted their system to the change, but Jacobson deserves a lot of the credit too.
I think this should be up-to-date. I've moved Fred to Australia although he'll stay with DC for another month or so. Active players (MLS) Andrew Jacobson (traded 2/18/2011): Dallas Alejandro Moreno (2010 expansion draft): Chivas USA Brian Perk (waived 7/30/2010): Los Angeles Shea Salinas (2010 expansion draft): Vancouver Chris Seitz (2010 re-entry draft): Dallas Shavar Thomas (traded 6/30/2010): Kansas City Active players (non-MLS) Cristian Arrieta (waived 2/8/2011): Ft. Lauderdale Strikers Fred Carreiro da Silva (2010 re-entry draft): D.C. United/Melbourne Heart Eduardo Coudet (waived 2/14/2011): Ft. Lauderdale Strikers Brad Knighton (waived 1/25/2011): Carolina RailHawks David Myrie (released 3/30/2010): Limón, Costa Rica Primera Division J.T. Noone (waived 3/1/2011): Harrisburg City Islanders Michael Orozco Fiscal (loan expired 1/1/2011): San Luis, Mexican Primera Division (on trial with Pachuca) Toni Ståhl (option declined 1/14/2011): Ft. Lauderdale Strikers Nick Zimmerman (waived 3/1/2011): Carolina RailHawks Active players (unattached) Chris Agorsor (waived 6/2/2011): on trial with Real Salt Lake
Nowak refuses to employ a box-to-box midfielder, which is what Jacobson is now playing as. It's remade his career.
Funny, then, how the team's site made a big deal a little while back about Naka becoming that box-to-box midfielder. Not that the propaganda is coming from the technical staff ...
If you're using the team site as the end all be all of what's happening on the field, then you'd believe that Nowak has gone completely insane. Every single time they've written a fluff piece on a player, said player has gotten screwed in some way (injury, benching, etc). Especially avoid the positional talk pieces because they tend to not reflect reality. In no way is Naka a box-to-box midfielder, nor has he been deployed as such.
Ricketts hurt his arm last night and had to leave early. His replacement received a red car for elbowing someone. If Ricketts can't make the next game it will be Mr. Perk's duty to defend the Galaxy's goal.
Eduardo Coudet had an amazing freekick equalizer in the 92nd min for the Fort Lauderdale Strikers vs hated rivals FC Tampa Bay (watched it live, was epic).
Big, big MLS debut for Perk on Monday night against Seattle. I really liked him last year, despite his wild inconsistency during the few minutes he played in friendlies. He was ON FIRE against Celtic, but his performance against MUFC swung from brilliant to erratic. He's got mad energy and seems like he could be an exciting player, but I worry he's a bit small for GK at this level. (But tell that to Nick Rimando...) In any event, I hope he does well -- he'll need that home crowd behind him against a hot Sounders squad.
So far he is playing great in his first cap in MLS. Sorta wish we kept him, but, glad he is getting this opportunity.
It was awesome. Who would have guessed back in the beginning of 2010 that Brad Knighton and Brian Perk would get clean sheets before Seitz.
Red card for Salinas sinks Vancouver http://communities.canada.com/vanco...ive/2011/07/07/whitecaps-pay-the-penalty.aspx
Just saw the red to Salinas. Looked ok to me, particularly given the high profile leg breaks this season.
