Hey guys, going a bit off topic here but as you guys were quite helpful, will post here again... looks like I'm back in Australia, Sydney + Brisbane this time in August, basically to do that Great Barrier Reef liveaboard dive that got cancelled last Jan due to the cyclone in Cairns... anyhoo, I realize that there probably won't be any A-league football on in Aussie during this time if I'm not mistaken, so no chance of catching a match... so my question is, if there's no football, then what's the next best thing.... is it AFL, Aussie Rules Football? Sorry, but I have absolutely no idea here.... I'll be there between Aug 14-19 and so that's week 21 http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2014_AFL_season and who's the big team to see in the area? I noticed Sydney Swans play St.Kilda on Aug 16... is that a good match to see?

Then this is where it starts to get confusing... there's also Rugby League (Sydney Roosters?), rugby union? Don't really know the difference I've got to be honest.. basically, my questions, if I'm in Australia arudn Aug 14-19, what would you guys suggest in terms of attending a sports even if football isn't on? Thanks...

The AFL's always worth a novelty visit, and is an interesting game to see live.

I'd also recommend the NRL (rugby league) and that weekend is a big derby game between Parramatta (my team) and Canterbury. They haven't confirmed the match date & time yet, but if you're going to a big game in Sydney- that would be one to see. I think its going to be at ANZ Stadium as well, which was the Olympics Stadium back in 2000. There should be a good crowd to that game and a good atmosphere too.

And, just quietly, we're looking good too. The depth up front is phenomenal considering Smeltz had been injured, and the other four look like studs.
