Pascal Bosschaart said Farina had put some much-needed starch into Sydney's preparation.
"He is a very, very hard coach - you see it right away, (there are) double training sessions and no days off ...
"We have been training hard and that is good for the boys.
"No disrespect to the previous coach but this is how you have to train - we have to train hard. This is his (Frank's) style and it is a great style. If we can get a good result in Wellington, it's massive."
Farina's task against the Phoenix has been made harder by Alessandro Del Piero's absence due to a hamstring injury, while Brett Emerton and Terry Antonis are with the Socceroos in Hong Kong.
Farina said Blake Powell would likely replace Del Piero for Sydney's second trip to Wellington this season.

Confirmed:

Sydney FC has bolstered its attack by signing proven goal scorer Joel Griffiths on a two-year contract.
Griffiths will officially start with Sydney FC when his current contract with Shanghai Shenhua expires on 31 December 2012 and is expected to make his debut with the Sky Blues once the transfer window opens on 14 January 2013.
The 2007/08 Hyundai A-League Johnny Warren Medallist and Golden Boot winner will begin training with Sydney FC on Monday.
“I’m really happy to be joining Sydney FC and can’t wait to get into training with the team and then start playing games,” Griffiths said.
“Sydney is my home, Sydney FC is a great club and has tremendous training facilities and I’m looking forward to playing in the A-League again.”
The 33-year-old joins Sydney FC after spending the last four years playing for Beijing Guoan and Shanghai Shenhua where he scored 34 goals from 94 appearances in the Chinese Super League, playing alongside Nicolas Anelka and Didier Drogba in Shanghai.

Terry Antonis, Rhyan Grant and Sebastian Ryall - aged 19, 21 and 23 respectively - announced on Friday they have penned new two-year deals.

The trio are in their third season together at the Sky Blues, with coach Frank Farina regarding them as crucial to the club's long-term success.
Attacking midfielder Antonis won his first three caps for the Socceroos' East Asian Cup qualifiers in Hong Kong earlier this month.
Alessandro Del Piero is set to start against the Jets after struggling with a hamstring injury, while Pascal Bosschaart has been ruled out with a calf strain.

Wouldn't like to see him leave just yet, I just can't see him getting game time in the PL at present. Especially since, despite being a Mariners fan, I think that it's not good for the league to see a club like Sydney doing so poorly.
On the other hand, training and potentially playing with the likes of Dimitar Berbatov? Could be a gamble worth taking with Australia to gain. If he sees out the season he'll still get a full English preseason under his belt. He's unlikely to play before then anyway

Farina was forced to delve into the shallow depths of his playing squad to field a team - his injured list included marquee signing Alessandro Del Piero, Jason Culina, Paul Reid, Ivan Necevski, Fabio, Pascal Bosschaart and Krunoslav Lovrek.
And when experienced midfielder Adam Griffiths limped off in the 12th minute with a knee injury, Farina summoned 16-year-old Aaron Calver as his replacement.
"We were out-experienced, we only had Brett (Emerton) and Terry (McFlynn) on the park who you would call experienced players," Farina said.

Sydney FC striker Joel Griffiths has been suspended for three A-League matches for abusing match officials in the latter stages of the clash with Melbourne Victory.
The match review panel deemed that Griffiths had committed the offence of “use of offensive, insulting or abusive language and/or gestures against a match official” and proposed a mandatory match suspension plus two additional matches.
Griffiths will miss Sydney's match against Newcastle Jets on Saturday.

“Sydney FC will be making no further comment on the issue until a decision has been made regarding any possible appeal, which must be actioned by 12pm on Monday (4 February).”

New striker:

Sydney FC has bolstered its attacking stocks by signing former Sheffield Wednesday junior Jarrod Kyle until the end of the 2012-2013 season, the A-League club confirmed.
The 19-year-old Australian spent three seasons in England with Sheffield Wednesday but will join Alessandro Del Piero, Joel Griffiths, Blake Powell, Joel Chianese and Kruno Lovrek in the Sky Blues' front line.
Kyle has spent a week trialling with Sydney, including taking part in the recent friendly against Tahiti, and put pen to paper on Monday night, before the transfer window closed in Australia.
Frank Farina backed the youngster who is tall and strong and possesses a good turn of pace.
“We found out he was available and coming back to Australia so we wanted to have a look at him and we liked what we saw so he’ll be with us until the end of the season,” Farina said.
“Anything beyond that is up to Jarrod and what he can show but he’s big and strong, holds the ball up well and has some pace.
“He is a typical old-fashion centre forward with a bit of pace. He’ll start in the youth team this weekend and we’ll see where it goes from there.”

Farina's been extended:

FRANK Farina will be announced as Sydney FC's head coach until the end of the 2014-15 season at a press conference scheduled for 3pm at Allianz Stadium.

Since then, Farina has taken the team from the wooden spoon into the top six, where they currently reside heading into Saturday's home game against Adelaide United.

He's taken the team to five wins, three draws and four losses since taking over, making his records one of the better ones in the whole competition over that time.

The 34-year-old, who has played 89 matches for Australia, said in a press release issued by his new club that he was excited to be returning home after plying his trade in England, Turkey and in more recent times, the United Arab Emirates for the past 11 years.

"I'm a Sydney boy and I'm excited to be coming back to Australia to play club football in front of friends and family with Sydney FC," Neill said. "I worked with Frank [Sydney FC coach Farina] for many years in the Socceroos and I look back on those times with good memories, and it's great to have the chance to enjoy further success together at Sydney FC. I look forward to meeting my new teammates tomorrow."

While his decision to play for Sydney added significant muscle to their star-studded line-up, which already boasted Italian great Alessandro del Piero and former English Premier League stalwart Brett Emerton, it was understood Neill was determined to solidify his place in the national team and play in a third consecutive World Cup.

Carle left Sydney only weeks before the start of the A-League season to try his luck with the Abu Dhabi-based club for a year.
Baniyas, which lies third in the United Arab Emirates Pro-League table, has not yet approached Sydney about its intentions regarding Carle, which has led the player and the Sky Blues to believe that he could be free to return home to complete the final year of his contract.
“My loan period with Baniyas ends on 30 June but I will have another year to go in my contract with Sydney FC,” Carle said.
”So my immediate future lies with Sydney.
”At the moment I am concentrating on my commitments with Baniyas where we still have a few more games to go.
”I am very happy at the moment but I don't know what the plan is for me.
”But by the same token I would be very glad to return home to play for Sydney FC again.”
Carle's sudden departure freed up a marquee spot that has since been filled by Italian World Cup star Alessandro Del Piero, who is expected to stay on for another season.
Carle said the prospect of playing alongside such a world famous footballer was irresistible.
”Coming home would be great and playing alongside Alessandro del Piero would be a massive bonus,” he said.
”He has lifted the profile of the club and the league so one hopes that he hangs around for another season.”
