This has become very bleak. I think these things take time and careful planning. It seems to me that MLS trying to build the stadium is too little too late. There may have been a window to get this done, but unfortunately I think its gone. As much as I like, or rather don't dislike, the pier 40 idea. I hope that MLS hasn't pinned there hopes on it.
Our plan had a stadium with plenty of retail mall stuff. You frankly can incorporate a stadium and mall.
Well Retail and Entertainment could include a stadium - no? I expect the Willets Point plan not to be two malls - still going to be some development - again - not saying its going to be a stadium but you still cant rule out the Parking lot as a potential stadium location. However, the discussions about moving the Javitz center could come into play. Ozone Park was mentioned but if the Javitz center was to move, the ideal location for that group would be Willets Point
Nick, I've always enjoyed your reasonable posts and insight on this board. Until now. 1. Ozone Park is not a suitable location for anything except for tanning salons and discount ribbed tank top wholesalers. 2. A convention center outside of Manhattan is a 100% lock non-starter. People don't want to come all the wat to New York from Des Moines, Iowa and then spend their day in Queens.
Fair enough dude and thanks for the kind words - however, my talk about the Javitz Center move is based on facts. The Governor wants to knock it down and the talk was a HUGE facility in Ozone Park, which these Javitz executives do not want, they would prefer Willets Point. Dont get me wrong - I agree with you with having the Javitz center outside of the Manhattan, I think its dumb, but this is whats being talked about right now. http://www.crainsnewyork.com/article/20120520/HOSPITALITY_TOURISM/305209977 A powerful group of businesses in the trade-show industry has coalesced to fight Gov. Andrew Cuomo's plan to tear down the Jacob K. Javits Convention Center to ensure they have a voice in the final decision. After nearly six months of intense meetings and conference calls, senior executives of companies that produce the vast majority of the shows at the Javits Center took a bold public stand, sending a letter to the governor late last month stating their opposition to the demolition of the Far West Side facility. The letter was also distributed to some 600 officials, including state and city legislators. The executives insist they will not patronize the much larger venue in Ozone Park, Queens, at the Aqueduct raceway that is to be built by the casino operator Genting Americas. They prefer a proposed, but troubled, development plan at Willets Point near Citi Field, which is closer to Manhattan. "Javits customers are adamant that the Javits Center remain open long term," their letter stated. Read more: http://www.crainsnewyork.com/article/20120520/HOSPITALITY_TOURISM/305209977#ixzz1vjuVhm8V
Alright...I've been out of this for awhile. So if we put all biases aside, which sites have died or on their way out? -Pier 40 doesn't seem to be going in the right direction. -Neither does WP or CF Parking Lot -I assume LIC was out of the question (though my fav option) What's left?
Nothing is eliminated yet and dont think we can. There are more meetings planned for pier 40 and WP is far from concrete. Remember 2years ago it was residence and now that story changed. I think there are still developments to come over there. There is one crazy rumor going around but it seems to insane to be true. Thing is, we have heard from multiple people from both sides. NY2 peeps and even RB fans. The rumor involves both teams and it's not a ground share. I'll tell you more when I see you.
Well Nick already told me every thing already and i hate to keep secrets so here it goes.. There is a strong rumor going around MLS HQ that the arabs have struck a deal with energy drink NJ to have 50% stake in that piece of shit from jersey.... TheArabs are going to flip the bill on a new stadium in NYC and the drink will move to NY and rebrand as the Red Cosmos Bull... The red drink arena will be sold to the NJ devils who have bought the rights of the Ironmen name and logo and will field a MLS expansion team at the soccer stadium renamed out door prudential center.... Leading and brokering this deal is none other than Charlie stillitano.... As far as jacob Jav center I have been asured by Ozone park Gambino associates and I quote "The Javitz aint goin no where guy, forget about it who ever told you it was comin to ozone park was telling you a fugazie. we got utter plans for that race track"... so there you have it hope that lifts this cloud of mystery....
OK i read it and WTF ! I have just 1 question ? Aren't the Devils in debt or broke ? Just something i heard. Red Bull Cosmos /sigh. Red Bull is a smart organization and they probably saw the writing on the wall in terms of NJ and there taxes problem there and said we want out or we are removing ourselves from the MLS , which in turn caused Garber to shit his tight whiteys !
I'm pretty sure I don't believe one word of this rumor. But I'm thinking of starting a thread about it in the RB forum just to watch their collective heads explode a la Scanners.
I'm not sure if anyone here has read it but the NY Times came out with an article yesterday about the joint public meeting of the Hudson River Park Trust and the Park Advisory Council that is scheduled for Thursday (today).http://goal.blogs.nytimes.com/2012/05/30/m-l-s-fans-get-chance-to-argue-for-stadium-on-hudson-river/
Yeah. Is anyone on this site or in the borough boys going to be represented at this meeting? Probably wouldn't hurt to get a good show of support.
Anyone going? This would be nice to not only show support, but to relay public opinion on the subject.
i would have went but literally just got back from my business trip. I dont think MLS is presenting tonight anyhow
