The whole issue of Eric Murdock's firing is the monkey wrench in the whole deal. He claims he was let go last summer when he first reported the abuse. Pernetti says it was because Murdock wanted to coach at another camp and Rice told him not to. It's being litigated and my hunch is that Pernetti kept this chump Rice around to show that the firing had nothing to do with Murdock reporting Rice's bad behavior months before. By suspending and sending him to counseling RU was showing it was taking proper steps to deal with Rice. Some pro-RU people have said that Murdock blackmailed the university with the tape. Not sure this has been proven anywhere. When RU got wind that Outside the Lines was going to air the tape the weekend of 4/6, RU jumped the story and let this soap opera play out the last few days.

Jersey's got loads of basketball talent that it loses out of state each year. With the right coach and moving to the Big 10 next year, RU can be a player if they keep the kids home. They're going to have to pay more than a measly $700K that Rice was making and upgrade the facilities in New Brunswick.

The RAC (Rutgers Athletic Center, which is in Piscataway BTW) is an excellent basketball facility. 8,000 seats, mostly on the sidelines. Only the student bleachers are behind the basket. A new, larger, facility, will not create more good seats, and seats in a new facility are guaranteed to be further away from the court.

This isn't at all embarrassing Nope. I love being accosted by TV sports people and news ladies when I'm walking back from work.

It is a good basketball arena. But it's half the size of the Big 10 arenas. The Highpoint Stadium is half the size of Michigan and OSU and looks like a slapped together architectural project.

Gramps runnin ho & drug ring at the senior complex. I hear there's quite a wait to get into this place:

Some of the activities taking place at Englewood’s senior citizen housing complex were a long way from canasta, police said.

A man, 75, and a woman, 66, suspected of using cocaine and running a prostitution ring out of their apartments at the Vincente K. Tibbs Senior Citizen Building have been arrested after residents complained about vagrants, drunks and addicts invading their building, authorities said.

The suspects and an alleged accomplice are believed to be behind a recent rise in crime that had residents afraid to come out of their apartments, authorities said. Their growing fears prompted an undercover investigation and new round-the-clock police patrols of the complex.

“Essentially, they were prisoners in their own building,” Chief Arthur O’Keefe of theEnglewood police said of the residents. “I wasn’t going to allow that to continue.”
In late April, police arrested fifth-floor residents James Parham and his neighbor Cheryl Chaney on charges of possession of drug paraphernalia and maintaining a drug nuisance. Chaney faces an additional charge of possession of crack cocaine.

A third suspect, Selma McDuffie, a 54-year-old school crossing guard, was charged with possession of drug paraphernalia after police found her with a crack pipe, police said. McDuffie has been suspended from her police-run crossing guard job in Englewood and threatened with arrest if she returns to the building.

Parham admitted providing prostitutes — mostly young women with crack cocaine addictions — to some of his younger neighbors in the building, Detective Capt. Timothy Torell said. More charges could be pending

Kai the Hatchet Wielding Stoner and kind-of internet sensation is accused of bludgeoning an old lawyer to death after lawyer picks him up in Times Sq. for sex.

An internet celebrity known as "Kai the Hatchet Wielding Hitchhiker" charged withkilling a Union County attorney after a sexual tryst in the lawyer's home Sunday, has been arrested in Philadelphia, said Glassboro Police Chief Alex Fanfarillo.

Caleb Lawrence McGillvary, 24, is accused of killing Clark lawyer Joseph Galfy Jr. He'd since been spotted in Haddonfield, authorties said, and Glassboro.

The South Jersey Times contacted Fanfarillo shortly after news broke that McGillvary had stayed at a home in Glassboro. The Chief said he was told the accused had been taken into custody in Philadelphia shortly after his department was contacted about interviewing witnesses to the wanted hitchhiker's visit.

McGillvary and Galfy met Saturday night in New York’s Times Square, Union County Prosecutor Theodore Romankow said in a press conference earlier in the day.
They would spend the better part of the next 24 hours together in Galfy’s Starlite Drive home, Romankow said, before their encounter would turn violent.

McGillvary is believed to have stayed in a Glassboro home after the killing, authorities said. He was last seen Tuesday leaving for the Philadelphia train station, authorities believe.
