Kuwait SC blew it and are now in second place. The only way we could win this league now is by winning our next 3 matches, including a decisive one against Al Qadsia.

    Results from Rounds 18 & 19

Al Qadisiya Kuwait 1-0 Salmiya SC
Al Arabi Kuwait 3-0 Al Sahel (KUW)
    Kuwait SC 1-0 Kazma SC
Al Jahra FC 2-1 Al Nasr (KUW)

Al Jahra FC 0-0 Kazma SC
Al Sahel (KUW) 1-3 Al Nasr (KUW)
Al Arabi Kuwait 0-3 Al Qadisiya Kuwait
    Kuwait SC 2-2 Salmiya SC

Certainly looks like coming down to the final matcup - of which I'll be on holiday and won't know the score until I return 2 weeks later!

Wish I didn't know the score, either. Kuwait SC lost the league title yet again. :(

Right, quick wrap up of the campaign:

*Qadisiya won the league by 4 points from Kuwait.
*Shabab won promotion after winning the 1st Division by 5 clear points
*Al Sahel were relegated to the 1st Division
*Salmiya defeated Khaitan in the end of season promotion/relegation match to reatin their place in the top flight.

    Over in continental competition...

*Salmiyah went out of the GCC Champions League (why they call it this???), losing out to Al Shabab (UAE) and Al Riffa (Bahrain)
*Kazma still have one group game to play, but have already qualified after taking 9 points from 9.
*Over in the AFC Cup, Qadisiya have qualified with one game reamining.
*Al Kuwait still have a chance to qualify if they don't lose in their last game away to Iraqi side Al Talaba
*Al Nasr on the other hand have let the country down in big style losing all 5 games thus far, although a good performance in there last game can decide which teams do qualify further.

In the countries domestic cup competitions...

*The Emir Cup 1st Round has just got under way in the last few days, the winners will qualify for next years AFC Cup along with the league champions.
*The Crown Prince Cup will pit Kuwait against Khaitan, to be played on the 17th May.
*And for the record, Qadisiya won the Federation Cup earlier in the year. A competition that is played whilst the league is somewhat in hibernation and where other competitions such as the Asian Cup are played at the time.

Although it's not really a consolation to losing the league title, Kuwait SC won the Crown Prince Cup on Tuesday after defeating Khaitan, 2-1. :)

Goodbye my friends in the Phillipines thread.

I have been banned by BigSoccer mods for having an opinion. I've enjoyed this thread, but unfortunatly I'm accused of doing things that I haven't. Apparently i'm a sock puppet.

For all who know me, know full well I aren't and have valid opinions throughout Asian football and have brought much to many threads. But the time has come to say goodbye as I'm being targeted by mods for enjoying being part of this forum.

You can contact me through wikipedia if you wish

    Bon Voyage!

Salmiya SC are currently on tour in the Czech Republic. Today they played a friendly against SK Prostejov (should be in the 4th division this year). The game finished 1-1, with Salmiya SC scoring on a penalty.

The Super Cup final will be played tonight. :)
    http://goalzz.com/main.aspx?c=1092&stage=1&week=true

Gee, let me see. Should I spend my boring summer evening watching the Kuwaiti Super Cup game between two sides I deeply resent (or at least one of them anyway), or should I watch the opening match-day of the new Barclays Premier League season?

    Hmm, tough call. :p

Liverpool vs. Sunderland, here I come!

    Oh, you sell out :D

I think the Kuwaiti game needs sprucing up bit to really catch the eye. There's too many competitions and not enough teams.

The top league is generally pathetic with only 8 teams, 4 decent, 4 poor.

And another Super Cup victory for Al Qadisa, to be honest, I'm not a fan of Super Cups, so OK it's played for the season opener, but why not play it like they do in Malaysia? In Malaysia, the Super Cup is also played as a league game, so points are at stake aswell.

Anyway, for the record, it's the 42 trophy in Qadisia's cabinet, 5 behind Al Arabi.

Also, this was the 1st Super Cup - this is the 4th edition - to be won be the defending league champions.

Kutsuit - do you think you could give us a brief introduction to the new campaign? Where clubs are based, managers etc??

Sell out? I think not! :p

My family has a longstanding tradition of watching the opening Barclays Premier League match-day. We're passionate Liverpool supporters. To cut a long story short, it's the city where my parents first met (at university). :)

I'm in full agreement with you on Kuwaiti football. We need to have more clubs, and I think the official governing body for sports in Kuwait recently approved the addition of two new sports clubs. One of them is based in Al-Qurain district and their first participation will be in the domestic Team handball league, but they'll also compete in football in the following (2012/2013) season. I think the club is privately-owned, unlike the 14 government-owned clubs that currently exist, and it's affiliated with the Emir's son.

I think it's about time we're letting this happen. Our local population is too big for there to only be 14 sports clubs in the country. Even Bahrain, Qatar and the UAE have more clubs than Kuwait, despite the fact these countries all have a significantly less number of locals (i.e. citizens) than we do.

I'm all for the motion that says it should be removed. It's a meaningless trophy and it's not even given proper attention by the federation anymore. I mean, if the Super Cup was anything as good as the FA Community Shield, I'll be more in favor of it. In the meantime, however, it's a poorly organized preseason event that accounts for nothing. I'm also sick and tired of the dominance shown by Al Qadsia. If there are two clubs I deeply, deeply hate in Kuwait, they're Al Arabi and Al Qadsia. It feels good to be a Kuwait SC supporter; it's the only club among the "Elite 3" that everyone in Kuwait usually sympathizes with. Not only does it bear the name of our country but it's also the only club to ever knock Al Arabi and Al Qadsia off their high horses. :p

Well, there was a lot of noise from the Al Arabi community during the summer. The fans are angry over the club president's failure to fulfill what he had promised for them at the end of the previous season. I think they only signed one player, LOL. It's obviously not good enough from the fans' perspectives.

It has been reported that Al Qadsia sold their forward, Hamad Al Enezi, to Al Naser, although it hasn't been confirmed yet. If so, this would be a very good signing for Al Naser. They have been, undoubtedly, the dark horses of Kuwaiti football in recent seasons.

I'm not worried about Kuwait SC, though. I think we spent quite well in the transfer season. We signed an Ivorian forward (Boris Kabi), a Malian midfielder from one of Libya's clubs (Lassana Fane), a young Kuwaiti midfielder from an Omani club (Abdullah Al Buraiky), and finally a veteran Jordanian midfielder (Ra'fat Ali). We've also gotten ourselves a new manager with lots of proven potential. Dragan Talajic has achieved Asian Champions League glory with Ittihad FC in 2004, and he also won a fair amount of trophies with Al Wahdat in Jordan. Apart from losing Waleed Ali on loan, I think we have a very good side.

The one thing I'm worried about, however, is the average age of the team. Apart from that, I think we should be all set for a good football season. I want us to win the league but I care more about the AFC Cup. I really hope we can go on to win it again, just like we did back in 2009. :)

The Kuwaiti Crown Prince Cup starts tomorrow, played in a similiar format to the Federations Cup with two groups of 7 teams, different to previous editions that have just worked around a single knockout system.

Does this mean the death of the Federation Cup?

Thanks for your news, it's very interesting, but coming from an Englishman like I am, I'm so suprised it takes this long to get to this stage. It's like the Kuwaiti league started and stood still, everyone moved around them, now they have been caught out.

By the way, I'm an Everton supporter!! I take it your full on Liverpool?

I think you're right. They probably stood idle for quite sometime, but Kuwait went into many regional turmoils over the past 3 decades, so it shouldn't be surprising. Countries like Qatar and the UAE were a bit further away from all the geopolitical tension, which could be the reason why they had a better chance to develop themselves in recent years. I think Kuwait has every potential to come back, but we just need to get our act together and forget the past. Once we teach ourselves how to look forward, we might finally begin to improve again.

I would also say part of the reason why we did so well back in the 70s and early 80s was because our FA wasn't run like a family business. The real person behind Kuwait's footballing success in the 70s and early 80s was former KFA president and vice president of FIFA, and current MP, Ahmed Al-Sadoun. He built Kuwaiti football from the ground up and, ever since he left his position in the late 70s, football hasn't been the same again.

Since the 1980s, we haven't had a single KFA president outside the Al-Sabah family. There's nothing wrong with having royalty in big positions, as long as they deserve their place. Unfortunately, however, most presidents who took over the KFA since the resignation of Ahmed Al-Sadoun didn't deserve to be there at all. Of course you shouldn't be surprised to see us stay idle all these years. Sports in Kuwait have become heavily politicized, unlike most other countries in the Gulf.

I wish we can have what Saudi Arabia and the UAE have right now. We need to start a professional/proper football league, and build state of the art sports facilities and stadiums.

    I would say so. :)

My mother has relatives in Liverpool who support both Merseyside derby clubs, although she and her family are from Bath.

My parents tease me sometimes. They keep saying Liverpool have not won the league title since the year I was born, implying I jinxed them or something. :p

So how confident are you of Everton, this season? They haven't made any changes to their squad, if I'm not mistaken.

Confident, you got to be kidding!!

We have no money as always, we need to sell to buy. I expect we will sell Jagielka on transfer deadline day to Arsenal and then we won't have time to fill the void. It's like we never have a plan.

We want a sugar daddy to come and buy us.

It's funny, your parents think you jinxed Liverpool, I think i jinxed Everton. We were the best in the 80's, only Liverpool stopped us conquering Europe thanks to the ban

I saw the Everton vs. Queens Park Rangers game, last night. I feel bad for you lot, right now. You shouldn't be losing to a newly promoted side at your home ground. You know, it's a shame this is happening to Everton. You deserve much, much better than what you're getting. Liverpool is the football capital of England, and perhaps the whole British Isles. Forget about London and Manchester; those cities are nowhere near as good as Liverpool when it involves "The Beautiful Game", in my humble opinion. I know we cant deny that Liverpool is one of the greatest football clubs in Europe and the World, but I think Everton is also a lot bigger/greater than clubs like Chelsea and Manchester City are ever going to be (no disrespect to their followers). Everton deserve to have their own 'sugar daddy'. It's a real shame they don't have the amount of money that other, smaller clubs in England are having so far. The city of Liverpool, as a whole, needs to make a comeback. Sorry about the ban, LOL. :p

I truly hope things will work out for the best. :)

I wish I saw this earlier... I guess it's too late to make any predictions now, but I should say I expected the South Koreans to beat us. So I'm very pleased with the draw/result. :p

Yeah I like this team they've been doing very well recently. Gulf Cup, West Asian Cup.. they've never lost a game ever except in the AFC cup. We're talking Australia, Oman, KSA, Iraq, and many medium to high caliber teams and now Korea. Not a single loss. Goran is doing a pretty good job and for the first time in 9 years I can say Kuwait is back to what it used to be.

I think it's extremely difficult for UAE to qualify now. They lost 3 points against us in their home and they lost 3 points to Lebanon. I wouldn't bet on Lebanon to qualify also. I'm betting it's Korea and Kuwait and it will be settled way before our final match against Korea.
