On 12/15/13 Rossi had 1 assist and scored 1 goal when he played 76" in Fiorentina 3-0 Bologna game. Highlights .
On 1/5/14 Rossi started in Fiorentina 1-0 Livorno, but he left the game @ 71” with right knee injury following a bad foul from Rinaudo. Fiorentina reported Rossi suffered right knee sprain of MCL. Further tests and MRI will be done on 1/6/14 to see extend of right knee sprain and rule out 3rd ACL tear. .
On 1/6/13 Rossi had further tests and MRI @ CTO (Centro Traumatologico Ortopedico) and it was reported. 1) Rossi didn't tear/rupture his ACL for 3rd time, which would have risked his career. 2) He has suffered a 2nd degree sprain of his MCL and will not require surgery. -> 2nd degree sprain of MCL = 2 months of rehab. 3) Rossi will fly to Vail, CO to be evaluated by Dr. Steadman, who will setup his rehab program. .
Poor guy just when he was getting back into it this hurts italy's chances at this world cup by a lot....will he really recover by march ?
2nd degree MCL usually heals in 5-6 weeks, but since Rossi has had issues with his right knee, it will probably require 7-9 weeks off . .
On 1/10/14 Rossi travelled to Vail, Colorado and saw Dr. Steadman. After 3 hours of exams/tests Dr. Steadman diagnosis for his re-injured right knee is: 2nd Degree MCL Strain associated with Stress on the ACL and Swelling. Rossi will do 2-3 weeks of Rehab in NY and then see Dr. Steadman for re-exam. Basically, recovery time will be known once Dr. Steadman re-checks how Rossi MCL/ACL are doing after the swelling has come down. Also, rumor/word is that Dr. Steadman did not mentionn need for surgery. .
On 1/27/14 Rossi travelled to Vail, Colorado and saw Dr. Steadman for follow up. After 1.5 hour of exams/tests, Dr. Steadman diagnois for his re-injured knee is: Knee is in good stable condition and no Operation is required. Dr. Steadman wants Rossi to do 2 months of continued rehab in NY with his physio Luke Bongiorno (NYSportMed), then check with Dr. Steadman before continuing his rehab on the field (To get game fitness) with Fiorentina. “I am morally relieved after the meeting with Professor Steadman,” “Now I will have to work as hard as I can in rehabilitation. I’m always by your side. Forza Viola. GR.” .
