This thread is for the 2014 USA Men's Draft picks. No discussion or debate in this thread. The 12 teams, who have already been set, should post their picks plus some photos and info about the player selected into this thread and only this thread. (Teams are advised to "watch" this thread.) General Draft Rules: 1. Snake Draft 2. 20 Rounds (increased from 18 in prior years due to growing US player pool) 3. Only US eligible players who have not yet declared for another country or who have not been capped by another country. Rossi - Out. Subotic - Out e.g. 4. 12 teams 5. Must draft 2 GK's 6. In past years we had a number of teams with partners working together. The point of having a partner is so that all picks are made within the time limit (IF NOT SOONER), not to delay all of your picks until your partner gets in. Discuss things before it is your turn. 7. There will be a 12 hour time limit for your pick, if you miss you can come in and pick at any time after your 12 hours has expired. 8. A player list will be provided of people you can send your proxy too (I.E. have no life and are on here too much) and/or you can send your proxy to the next person who is drafting so they can come in and make your pick and their pick. (EDIT: Not sure about this rule ... Hararea and MLSNHTOWN might be good proxy options to contact if they are willing.) 9. Rather than just posting "I select ___________." Try to provide some information on the player including pictures/videos/whatever you can find to educate us as to why you took him and as to what position you think he will play on your team. The more information, the better. 10. Voting after the Draft, at middle of year (julyish) and at the end of the year. 11. We will start when we have a full list of teams and then we will do a randomly selected draft order and have a 1 day cushion before we get going. If you are late to this thread, post your interest and we will try to incorporate you into an existing team. 12. After you pick, YOU MUST PM the next person!!!!!!!! It helps a lot. 13. Absolutely no posting of players who should have been selected instead. You can say things like "I prefer other forwards still on the board", but stay away from "You should have selected Danny Cruz instead". 14. Let's try to keep things friendly. No mocking of selections during the draft. The draft order for odd numbered rounds is as follows, with even numbered rounds in reverse order: [1] "truefan420 (east bay united)" [2] "Eleven Bravo" [3] "soccersubjectively (Real Soccer FC)" [4] "Mr Martin and deuteronomy -- Deportivo Vejete" [5] "joe cleats" [6] "StormingYank" [7] "SPA2TACU5 + Right Foot Planted (Team Beast Boyd United FC)" [8] "Balerion" [9] "AutoPenalti (Academica)" [10] "Sebsasour" [11] "MPNumber9" [12] "bmo180" The draft officially begins at 8:00am Eastern Time on Monday, February 3. Although the first team may announce its pick early (which has happened in the past), no team's clock will begin running until after 8:00am Monday morning. I will also create a separate Draft discussion thread. The organizing thread was at the following link: https://www.bigsoccer.com/community/threads/official-2014-usa-mens-draft-organizing-thread.1999914/ Best of luck and enjoy!
With the first pick of the draft, after much debate, East Bay United selects their captain Michael Bradley. The man is well traveled, from USA to holland to Germany to England for a brief stint to Italy then to Canada. This shows in his game with the amount of ground he typically covers. Well it was a tough choice but I decided to select Bradley because of all the things he offers: offensively going forward, he's a goal scoring threat from the midfield, he makes passes to unlock a defense, can play short and long, defensively, the ground he covers, passing under pressure, linking the defense to the forwards, a calming presence at all times, all of these things have led to him becoming the most important player in US jersey. As well as he gives me the flexibility to play whatever formation I'd like while there are a couple of older us mens players that will pigeon hole their teams into playing a particular formation if they are to get the best out of them at their age.
*Sorry for the confusion, my phone was acting weird... With my first pick, I am going with: LANDON DONOVAN! I was in between Bradley and Donovan for my first pick, and I am glad to have my decision made up for me. With Donovan, I have the most potential of any player in the draft. Where Bradley is the engine, Donovan is the painter and the WC will be his final canvas for his illustrious career. This means that we are dependent on his creativity to advance out of our group. And I say that Donovan is the safest because unlike Dempsey, Jozy, and Bradley... Donovan is settled with his club. Also, Donovan tends to perform best when the pressure is off his shoulders, and never before has Donovan had less pressure. In short, expect big things from landon this year! Of note, Donovan will be able to play LW, RW, CAM, or as an inside forward which will give me more options for the later rounds in the draft. Very happy with this pick!
With the third pick of the 2014 Big Soccer draft, Real Soccer FC selects Clint Dempsey. Dempsey provides RSFC with several options in the attack and, while his exact position will not be named at this moment, we are confident he will give the media several faces to make memes from. A standout at New England, Fulham, Tottenham, and now Seattle, he is prepared to hold the captain band as all managers should consider when compiling their fictional lineup.
With the 4th pick in the 2014 USA Men's Draft, Deportivo Vejete is excited to announce the selection of Jozy Altidore Jozy had a terrific 2013 for the USA, tied with Landon Donovan for the scoring lead with 8 goals, and added 2 assists in 14 appearances. His brilliant two-year run of form with AZ Alkmaar (39 goals in 67 matches) lead to a return to the Premier League with Sunderland this fall. He's the top striker in the US pool, a lock starter for the National Team, and only now entering his prime at age 24. As an experienced international and World Cup player, we expect big things from Jozy this Summer in Brazil, and for Deportivo Vejete.
With the 5th pick, I select FABIAN JOHNSON The US and Hoffenheim left back can also play left wing. He is a dynamic player and provides a threat down the left hand side, and stays unpredictable by hugging the sideline or cutting into the middle. His defending is solid but he is very good at keeping the right side of opposing teams pinned back by constantly threatening them down the wing. Fabian was also selected 5th in the first round in the 2013 USA Men's draft, proving that he is an integral part of the USMNT in the eye's of the fans.
With the 6th pick in the draft I am selecting Geoff Cameron. Whether it's centrally or on the right Cameron will go along way in stabilizing my defense. Plus allowing me a good amount of versatility with the rest of my draft.
7. Team Beast Boyd United FC picks Juan Agudelo. He's no Bradley, Dempsey, Landy, Jozy, Fab J or G Cam yet (they were our projected first six picks). But despite his age Agudelo already has a lot to offer: smooth ball handling, pace, and most importantly Agudelo can score goals. Agudelo will be developed and polished by FC Utrecht over the next months. We're expecting great things.
With the eighth pick in the draft, I select Aron Johannsson. Or wait, maybe he's actually this guy: I'm very pleased to get a striker of this caliber with the 8th overall pick. Johannsson has improved year over year from the start of his career. This season, he's already netted 19 times in all competitions. I have every expectation that he will continue to as productive, if not more, for club and country through 2014.
With the ninth pick. I select Mix Diskerud. Mikkel Morgenstar Pålssønn Diskerud (a name that awesome needs to be said in full) is a sensation to be hold, I honestly can't believe I'm able to pick him yet again. This guy is the future of the midfield, his organization and creativity is what sparks the U.S. midfield, and when used in his favorite position, can be a deadly force. He can be deployed anywhere either as a CAM, CM or even at DM. Could also be the next Bradley.
With my first and the tenth overall pick, I select... Matt Besler. Defender - Sporting KC The former MLS defender of the year and the best defender in our player pool IMO. He's been terrific since Jurgen first brought him in and I think he brings instant stability to my back line. Now he is a bit of a dirty player, and I do worry about him picking up silly cards. I mean look at him drop kick this Costa Rican player ----------------------------------?------------------------------ --------------?-------------------?-----------------------------? --------------------?--------------------------?----------------- ---?-----------------Besler-------------------?------------------ --------------------------------?-----------------------------------
For my first pick and 11th pick overall, Bear Flag FC select 2-time MLS Best XI right midfielder Graham Zusi. Zusi had a breakout season in 2012, narrowly edging out Landon Donovan to lead MLS in assists with 15. In 2013, not only did Zusi cement his place as a USMNT starter, providing crucial goals and assists in World Cup Qualifying, he lead Sporting KC to its first MLS Cup victory since 2000. His impeccable service from the right wing will be crucial for our team.
John Anthony Brooks Has about as much upside as anyone in the draft imo. 21 year old who was starting and playing well for a top half Bundesliga team before injury
With my 2nd pick I'll take another Bundesliga starter Timmy Chandler You can question his commitment to the USMNT but he can play. Been getting rave reviews lately for Nurnberg
For my second pick and 14th overall, Bear Flag FC selects 2013 Gold Cup Champion Eddie Johnson. Named 2012 MLS Comeback Player of the Year, Johnson has secured his spot for the USNT, scoring 4 goals in World Cup Qualifying and helping lead the team to a Gold Cup victory. A proven scorer for both club and country, Johnson boasts 23 goals in 48 appearances for the Sounders. His aerial dominance and goal-scoring will be an asset to the team.
With my 2nd pick I select.... Michael Orozco - Defender - Puebla I'm doing this from a smartphone so I don't want to type that much. I think the US is a bit limited in defenders and with me having to wait 20 picks for my next turn, its hard to pass on a guy who can play both cener and right back serviceably. Plus the guy has 3 goals in his last 5 appearances, which is quite impressive for a defender so you never know when I'll get some Azteca heroics from him
C.F. Academica selects 16th overall Omar Gonzalez. Current Club: LA Galaxy Height: 6' 5" Weight: 205 lbs. Birthdate: 10-11-1988 Birthplace: Dallas, TX The heart of the L.A. Galaxy defense, he has come in handy for this team in particular with his aerial ability. X X — Diskerud — X X — X X — X — Gonzalez — X X
With the 17th pick, I select Jermaine Jones. It's a little strange to me that I'm taking Jones because I feel that I'm not quite as big a fan of him as other USMNT followers are. (Perhaps this draft should force me to re-evaluate that assumption.) That being said, I just can't turn him down at this stage. Jones has been singled out as one of Klinsmann's core players for 2014 and he'll be a very influential player in the middle of the park for my team. Jones is getting a little older and I expect he'll drop again in the 2015 draft, but I think he'll fit the bill this year and be an excellent value for where he's been taken. 1. Aron Jóhannsson 2. Jermaine Jones
18th pick, 2nd round, Amobi Okugo. 1. Juan Agudelo 2. Amobi Okugo We're big big fans of this player. We are looking to build a technically strong side that can defend forward by pressing high and can pin the opponent down through passing and ball control and positioning. Like Agudelo Okugo is a very well rounded player developed to play the passing game. Okugo will be our Michael Bradley. Not a proven goalscorer but offering more defensively. Very good ball control, excellent passer with his right and above average with his left foot. Okugo is hands down the best CB in the entire player pool when it comes to building out of the back.

With the 19th pick I am selecting Alejandro Bedoya. With this player I getting someone who can play on the right wing or behind the striker. His work rate is among the top in the pool and this will continue to allow for multiple looks going forward in the draft. 1. Geoff Cameron 2. Alejandro Bedoya
With the 20th overall pick, I select: Chris Wondo(w)lowski Although there is debate on whether or not he has pushed his way into the 23 for Brazil this summer, there is no debate that this man scores goals. A late bloomer by any definition, his drive and motivation to succeed should be an inspiration to all players and teammates. For my team, he will be the target man and relied upon heavily to score goals, just like he does for San Jose. His ability to play with, shall we say, a more bruising type of forward will help my attacking options later in the draft. 1. Fabian Johnson 2. Chris Wondolowski
With the 21st pick in the 2014 draft, Deportivo Vijetes are pleased to announce their selection of Sacha Kljestan. We expect him to anchor our midfield and he is capable of playing a variety of roles in assorted formations. He quickly established himself as a valuable starter at the legendary Belgium side, Anderlecht, and has performed well in European competition. He is one of only a few USA players to score a hat trick for the National team. Tall, rangy and athletic, he possesses a great motor. He has regularly outperformed expectations at each level he has risen to. We are surprised and pleased that he fell to us with this 21st selection. The soccer Gods are smiling Renowned for his "porn stache", we believe he will be a key player for our squad. 4. Jozy Altidore 21. Sacha Kljestan
With the 22nd pick of the 2014 draft, Real Soccer FC takes Mike Magee. While there are some rumors of him slipping away to Ireland, he still has a shot at the WC roster for the US with Klinsmann recently saying that the door is still open for him. Magee scored 15 goals in 22 appearances with Chicago and will help RSFC crush the rest of your teams.
YESSSSS!!!!!!! I got my man! With my second pick and 23rd Pick overall, I select: Terrence Boyd!!! http://kurier.at/mmedia/medienpool/2012-07-18/167921_fe3.jpg I am very excited about this pick! Terrence Boyd is perhaps the last truly international quality pure center forward left in the draft. I know that I was toying with the idea of taking Magee over Boyd if he was available, but with the selection of Donovan, I felt that I did not want to have two tiny forwards. I wanted a bruiser for this round, and I got one in Terrence Boyd. And, the idea of Boyd bringing his hustle, power, and energy with Donovan's speed, vision, and creativity... I believe I already will have one of the most dynamic offenses this year. More, while he is clearly behind, Jozy and Aron, right now; he is younger and has more promise than Eddie J and Wondow, but also, more proven than Agudelo. With already 20 goals for Rapid Vienna, and 12 this season, he is proving himself to be a goalscorer. And although he has yet to really settle in on the national team, I project that he will be our breakout player in 2014. His potential reminds me of a young Charlie Davies who initially struggled when he first came on too. In short, the sky is the limit for Boyd this year. He's perhaps my top candidate to break through onto the scene this year, but he's already has proven himself as a quality striker for a reputable European club, Rapid Vienna. Nothing like some angry white boy music to evoke the appropriate emotional response to this selection. 2. Landon Donovan 23. Terrence Boyd
