I don't consider training matches results have any meaning, especially those with hybrid formulas such as 3 or 4x45 minutes, but FC Tokyo are perfect against Korean opposition after beating Ulsan 1-0 yesterday. Also, Matsumoto Yamaga beat FC Seoul 3-2,

Hard to tell, just like it has always been. I'm biased towards Urawa because they're my favourite club but compared to the top teams from last season, they had a good transfer campaign, I see them as favourites along with Kashiwa Reysol, that still has most of their 2011 winning squad + Cleo up front. Sanfrecce were outstanding last season but haven't made any major signing and Sato isn't getting any younger. Same goes for Vegalta- they are a great group but they lack a real star, someone to make a real difference. The ACL is going to take an heavy toll on these teams though, and they will suffer in J1 until April/May (I'd say they all have a good chance of passing the first round). Of the non-ACL teams I'd keep an eye on Kashima, who knows if Shibasaki, Osako &c. will finally have their breakthrough season. I'm excited to see Nakamura in J1 as well.
On paper Reysol looks like the best candidate. They have reinforced in every part, have a top manager,a consolidated system and looks like many of their best players are at the pinnacle of their career. Antlers have a great offensive potential, but they have changed a lot,Toninho Cerezo was out of the big business for some time, and the only substantial change in their back line (their Talon d'Achille in the past seasons) was LB Maeno from Ehime FC. Cerezo have the potential to storm the league...but God only knows what was their potential in the past seasons, yet the outcome was what we have enjoyed (ahem... i have enjoyed... ) I am still unconvinced by Urawa ,but this year they have a chance,if their new goal-machine Koroki() will live up to the high expectations (...) Sanfrecce double, very unlikely. Vegalta doing better than 2012,very unlikely. Shimizu will hit winning streaks, losing streaks and change their lineup 30 times in 34 matches,my prediction 6th place and a good run in the cups. Omiya Ardija will do their best J1 season EVER (mark these words...). FC Tokyo will finish mid-table... of the 3 newcomers Ventforet seems to be the weakest, having to cope with the departure of Davi, but still they won't be the next-Consadole... I don't know if Albirex will go down this year, but if they are going to play with Tatsuya Tanaka leaving Kawamata on the bench, they will deserve it from the deepest.
Are you subtly challenging me for a full table final preview? Ok,here we go. 1-Kashiwa Reysol 2-Cerezo Osaka 3-Urawa Reds 4-Vegalta Sendai 5-Kashima Antlers 6-Shimizu S-Pulse 7-Omiya Ardija 8-Sanfrecce Hiroshima 9-FC Tokyo 10-Jubilo Iwata 11-Sagan Tosu 12-Yokohama F.Marinos 13-Oita Trinita 14-Nagoya Grampus 15-Albirex Niigata 16-Kawasaki Frontale (about time...) 17-Shonan Bellmare 18-Ventforet Kofu
You're courageous, that's a plus for you. But usually, the most obvious pick doesn't win it so I don't think Kashiwa will come on top (and even though I don't wanna draw any conclusion after last sunday's Chibagin, it's still on mind and it wasn't the showing of a potential champion). I looked too bad making predictions in 2009, 10 or 11 so I'm gonna hide, sorry.
this is my preview! 1-Urawa Reds 2-Kashiwa Reysol 3-FC Tokyo 4-Sanfrecce Hiroshima 5-Kashima Antlers 6-Vegalta Sendai 7-Yokohama F.Marinos 8-Cerezo Osaka 9-Jubilo Iwata 10-Shimizu S-Pulse 11-Nagoya Grampus 12-Omiya Ardija 13-Sagan Tosu 14-Shonan Bellmare 15-Oita Trinita 16-Kawasaki Frontale 17-Albirex Niigata 18-Ventforet Kofu
There's tomorrow super cup and Guizhou on wednesday,so i wasn't much surprised about Reysol's meagre display in the Chibagin (even if i'm now very positive about the potential of Jun Suzuki-Jef). BTW i have to build up some interest in J1 for this year...since my focus will primarily be elsewhere
It's not just you. I mean would anyone have bet on Reysol or Sanfrecce the past two season? Or Gamba relegation? The beautiful thing about Japanese football is the fact that there is no strong teams oligarchy like in Premier League/Serie A, I think that's one of the reasons why there is a good number of Italians here. I missed the Chibagin, only saw the score but I don't usually trust pre-season results so I didn't take that into account. What was about Kashiwa that made it look like bad? Anyways I'll throw my prediction in, just for the lulz, but I'm by no means an expert and was the guy who expected Consadole to stay safe last season anyways so take this for what it is. 1. Urawa Reds 2. Kashima Antlers 3. Sanfrecce Hiroshima 4. Kashiwa Reysol 5. Yokohama F. Marinos 6. Vegalta Sendai 7. Sagan Tosu 8. FC Tokyo 9. Shimizu S-Pulse 10. Jubilo Iwata 11. Nagoya Grampus 12. Cerezo Osaka 13. Albirex Niigata 14. Kawasaki Frontale 15. Shonan Bellmare 16. Ventforet Kofu 17. Omiya Ardija (they can't save their rear-ends forever, can they?) 18. Oita Trinita Quite terribly biased towards teams I like (Reds, Albirex, Bellmare)
It is hard to predict the outcome of a certain J-League season, but what I've noticed from your predictions is that most of you are under-rating Sagan and Albirex. I expect both of these two teams to be safe this season, with Sagan to finish anywhere from 1st to 9th, while Albirex to finish anywhere from 4th to 12th. I expect Nagoya to have a troublesome season, and I'm not expecting Sanfrecce and Vegalta to be able to match their last season success.
I'm not pushing myself to guess the entire table, only the important parts. Winner: Urawa Red Diamonds ACL Zone (2nd to 4th): Kashiwa Reysol, Kashima Antlers, Vegalta Sendai Relegation: Albirex Niigata (they can't be lucky every year), Shonan Bellmare, Ventforet Kofu
Couldn't go unfortunately but heard Kashima-Mito was a fantastic match. Both teams put forward the top squad and it was the first time Kashima hasn't beaten Mito in a serious match. Things look good for both teams this season in their respective divisions.
I swear to god that when I saw that goal against Mito for one second I thought Fujigaya was the goalkeeper P.S. both goalkeepers horrible, absolutely horrible
