And with our last pick Andrew Jean-Baptiste The team: -----Johannsonn----Wenger------ ------------------Silva-------------- DeLeon-------------------------Gatt -----------------Carroll------------- Wingert--Okugo-----Gonzo--Beitashour -------------------Busch--------------------- Bench: Salgado, Zardes, Alexander, Pause, Zavaleta, Jean-Baptiste, Meara
With my last pick I select David Bingham. Bingham is a young goalkeeper (23 years old) who may see significantly more time this season with the Earthquakes in the Champions League. Given that I already have a steady veteran in Pickens, I've decided to go with potential for my backup keeper. Previously a member of the U23 pool, Bingham has shown promise in limited MLS action (315 minutes). Fun fact: he registered an assist on his MLS debut (31 seconds in):
With my last pick I select... Cody Cropper 1. Danny Williams 2. Herculez Gomez 3. Carlos Bocanegra 4. Michael Parkhurst 5. Kelyn Rowe 6. Davy Arnaud 7. Jack McInerney 8. Tony Beltran 9. Jack Jewsbury 10. Brandon McDonald 11. Bill Hamid 12. Marc Burch 13. Eric Avila 14. Jonathan Bornstein 15. Tony Taylor 16. Diego Chavarri 17. Caleb Stanko 18. Cody Cropper
I will select Jacob Peterson I am trusting my depth to be able to hold up while Peterson makes his way back from injury. He is another versatile player who can play on the right or left as an attacking player.
With the last pick Real Soccer FC takes Corey Hertzog of the Vancouver Whitecaps. Hertzog did well in Wilmington last year on loan and will be interesting to see how he does in Vancouver, especially with such a crowded field. ------------------------------Guzan--------------------------- Cherundolo-----Williams---------Marshall---------Loyd ---------------------------------------------------------------- ----------------------------Cameron-------------------------- ----Duka------------------------------------------------Davis ----------------------------Feilhaber------------------------- ---------------------------------------------------------------- ------------------Wooten---------------Lenhart------------ Bench: Starikov (ST), Villarreal (CAM), Greg Garza (LB), Michael Stephens (CM), Brad Friedel (GK), Zimmerman (CB), Hertzog (ST)
With its final pick, The Darned United selects rookie midfielder Scott Caldwell of the New England Revolution. In college, Caldwell was pretty special, most notable for being named the outstanding player of the 2010 College Cup. Heading into MLS, he continues to be an unusual player in that there are no serious concerns about his ability to adjust to a higher speed of play. He reads the game extremely well, and his passing is quick and accurate. (I like this picture of him because it shows the way his head is always up, alertly surveying the field.) Where he may very struggle is in dealing with the league's physicality, and if he does, he'll quickly fall behind the other options in New England's crowded midfield. But this is Round 18, and I'm willing to roll the dice. 1. Fabian Johnson 2. Terrence Boyd 3. Juan Agudelo 4. Chris Rolfe 5. Michael Farfan 6. Brad Evans 7. Michael Orozco Fiscal 8. A.J. DeLaGarza 9. Conor Casey 10. Jalil Anibaba 11. Andrew Farrell 12. Drew Moor 13. Collen Warner 14. Danny Cruz 15. Stephen McCarthy 16. Troy Perkins 17. Luis Robles 18. Scott Caldwell
My last pick: Joe Cannon Vancouver Whitecaps --------------------Kennedy------------------- -Lichaj------Onyewu----Parke---------Ashe- ------------------Beckerman------------------ ----Rogers/Farfan---------------Convey----- --------------------Torres---------------------- ------------Altidore-----Bunbury-------------- Bench: Cannon, Farfan/Rogers, Estrada, Agbossoumonde, Rusin, Lopez, Speas
With our 18th and final selection in our draft, Deportivo Vejetes, announces our pick of Ryan Miller. Miller offers experience across our back line and is expected to start at right back for the Portland Timbers this season after enjoying four strong years of playing in Sweden. He is a box to box attacking defender. http://www.oregonlive.com/timbers/index.ssf/2013/02/ryan_miller_settling_in_with_p.html We have a wide variety of different formations that we can throw out with our versatile selections, here might be our best 11 in a 4-2-3-1: ----------------------Gordon------------------------------- ---Eddie Johnson---Landon Donovan----Bedoya----- ---------------Rico Clark-----Mo Edu---------------- ==Sinovic==Ream====Whitbread======Alston== ===========Steve Clark================= Backups(but might feature in other formations): Justin Mapp, Carlos Alvarez, Conor Doyle, Khamani Hill, Jason Hernandez, Zac McMath and now: Ryan Miller
With this last GK pick, I am stuck with the same choices that those who picked ahead of me had just made. Do I select a GK who may/may not start (Robles/Meara), a veteran (Cannon/Hahnemahn) or a young and promising backup GK (Cropper/Bingham). So I am going to do a fantasy football trick and take the young and promising backup GK who actually also works as a handcuff for my starting 'keeper Tally Hall. With the next selection of the US Draft, I am going to select Dynamo backup 'keeper Tyler Deric. Let's start with the justification - like Bingham Deric should get plenty of chances in Open Cup and in Champions League play. If Hall gets hurt, who better than to take the person that will actually benefit from his injury in this draft. Also, I think for a young backup 'keeper Deric is flying under the radar a bit in MLS and I think he is better than several other young 'keepers drafted or not drafted. He is just stuck behind Tally Hall which you can't really fault him. He anchored the Dynamo reserves in the reserve league and helped Houston advance in the Champions League last year and I think another team in MLS (like say a New England) would be wise to try to scoop him up. He's already gone through an off-season incident last year that he has now been vindicated so he can handle adversity and the Houston Dynamo did not immediately cut bait with Deric indicating IMHO that they think he was worth holding onto. Creavalle and Deric give me a great 1-2 combination as both were arrested and now have had the charges against them dropped. LOL. So the team: 1. General Bradley 2. Super Wondo 3. Chris PartyBoy Pontius 4. Eddie The Keeper" Gaven 5. Perry the Kitchen Sink 6. Austin "Rookie of the Year" Berry 7. Jay "The Story" Demerit 8. You've Got No Chance Myers 9. Connor "The mighty midget" Lade 10. Shea "The Marquez career killer" Salinas 11. Tally "The Wall" Hall 12. Marc "The promise" Pelosi 13. Sebastian "The Leg" Lleget 14. Eric "El Gigante" Brunner 15. Brian "ChinGolazo" Ching 16. Pablo "The Maestro" Mastroeni 17. Warren "Kid N' Play" Creavalle 18. Tyler "Law Dog Don't Go 'Round Here" Deric
With the last pick in the draft, I select Chris Seitz. There aren't any surefire picks here. The safest thing to do would be to guess which of Bobby Shuttleworth or Matt Reis will start in New England in 2013. However, I've seen a lot of those two guys; Reis has declined significantly and Shuttleworth doesn't have much upside. With Howard as my #1, I can afford to be a little speculative. Seitz is another keeper who once carried the "future USMNT #1" moniker and hasn't come close to living up to the billing. He toiled for three years in Salt Lake behind Nick Rimando. In 2010, he was finally given a chance to play every week with Philadelphia, but was shaky and lost his job to Brad Knighton at times. Cut loose, Seitz joined Dallas in 2011. IMO, he has looked steadier in recent years when he has deputized for Kevin Hartman. Now Hartman is gone and Seitz's new competition is Peruvian NT goalkeeper Raul Fernandez. Fernandez could be tough to beat out, but Hyndman seems to be leaning towards giving Seitz the nod at the start of the season. If this guy can turn the corner in 2013, he could be an excellent value pick. If he remains a steady backup, he's not really any different than most of the other GKs available. Here's my final team: ----------------------Bruin-------Wood-------------------- -------Dempsey-----------------------------Cascio--------- ------------------Larentowicz---LaBrocca------------------ -----Castillo-----Besler--------Wynne------Franklin------- ---------------------------Howard---------------------------- Bench: Seitz, Harrington, Meyer, Tchani, Zizzo, Hoppenot, Townsend Viva La Empty Bucket! This team may wind up in a 4-2-3-1 depending on how my forwards fare as a group and how my wingers fare as a group.
Awesome selections and props to everyone for a fun, drama filled and exciting draft. Certainly, some great work by all.
Agreed... Thanks for including me in on this year's draft. It was a lot of fun, and I was honored to partner with bmo180 in this process.
Props to Bravo for helping me out, he was a great partner to have and really knows his stuff, his insight on the less well known players was a big help since I am new to the MLS
Problem solved!!! Big Soccer can now allow for 12 choices in a poll. I have set up the Official Voting/Discussion Thread at the following link: https://www.bigsoccer.com/community/...layer-draft-voting-discussion-thread.1983024/ Please put your team writeups into this new thread, and let's have some fun!
