any of you guys know where there's a link to the Niigata Cup? Our youth, Mexico's u-18's, thrashed Niigata 7-1 recently according to our fed's site.

At the Niigata Cup, they beat Hungary in the first game but lost to Niigata representative team yesterday (0-2).

Japan won 1-0 against Mexico, but Mexico won the tournament.

Iran U-16 destroyed U-16 Japan 4-1.
We were the better side at every position and the scoreline should have been more in our favor.

Japan loses against Niigata which was destroyed by Mexico but beats the Azteqs ... lolol good old Japan.

Too bad Iran can't perform like this at senior level

And now Brazil trembles for the incoming WC2014.

The Niigata selection must've been pretty good (they won the competition last year). That's not that rare at the youth level, where players don't compete with the teams from the other end of the country. Add to that also that players from regional selections usually know better each other than it's in youth national teams.

One of the most memorable examples was the game between Tohoku and U-18 Japan in the Sendai International Cup. Kagawa played for Tohoku, players like Uchida, Yoshida, Makino, Yasuda, Havenaar played for the Japan. The result was 5:2 for Tohoku.

oh yeah sure we see that very often, your example is pretty good. My post was just about that weird logic of losing to a team which was destroyed by the guys they beat later.

Japan u-16 beat Iran 4-2 in the rematch. Looks like our friend didnt want to tell us about that though.

AFC U-16 Championship members

I've seen too few of these guys playing, Miyoshi, Aoyama, Nakatani, you probably know better SB2002 so who are for you the ones to watch ?

Watch out for the three Shimizu kids.

All three of them are already starters for Shimizu Youth despite being promoted this year.

Disappointing that Okugawa from Kyoto Sanga U-18's is not there.

He's another in the line of Kyoto strikers. Him and Tamura will almost definitely be promoted to the top team. It's just a shame that Kyoto Sanga have so many strikers. They really need to stop producing so many good ones.

Their whole first team forward line-up could potentially be all home-grown in 2-3 years. Kubo, Miyayoshi, Mine, Tamura, Okugawa. Highly doubtful (someone will leave either Kubo or Miyayoshi), but just goes to show how strong their youth set-up is.

Yeah I would be surprised if one of Miyayoshi, Nakamura or Kubo doesn't leave for another team in the next J League though

Japan made it to the final of the Danone Nations Cup, we lost to South Korea, I think on penalties. They won all their bracket matches on penalties, lol, we trashed Argentina in the semifinal and Spain in the quarter

While some may think that such young tournaments don't mean much, I don't. Actually instead I think that they are very indicative.
For example, it's extremely interesting that Thailand made it to the final against Brazil last year.

Cool. Kind of like Baseball's Little League International World Series, where the winner of the domestic competition can represent their nation. very interesting. Young kids can taste a little bit of international game at their age level.

In preparation for the AFC U-16 Championships the Japan U-16 beat Armenia U-16's 7-0 then a couple days later they beat Armenia U-17's 7-0

Just a reminder that the first match of the AFC U-16 Championships is tomorrow against Saudi Arabia.

It's being broadcasted on Fujitv so there might be a stream, but we'll have to see.
