Just saw that NYRB gave up Dane Richards to get Sebastian LeToux. Interesting. Maybe I rate Richards too highly, but it seems pretty one sided to me. I wonder if LAG could have gotten Richards for Barrett (I have no idea how the cap space would play out). I would love to see some Dane Richards speed on this club.

Unless we get rid of Buddle after this year I think that this will be the final year for Barrett at LAG. Looking forward to next year, we will have Keane and Buddle as well as an 18 yo McBean pushing for more minutes and cheaper. Also, during the offseason we are going to sign Zardes from CSUB, the guy we supposedly offered a 100,000 hg deal last year he turned down for reasons "unknown." He is supposedly one of the best players in all of college so I expect him to take Barrett's position. With those four guys I assume that Barrett's salary could be better used somewhere else and hope that is the decision made.

We should get rid of Barrett or Buddle and possibly use the cap money or better yet, trade for Montero. He hasn't been starting since Eddie Johnson got traded to Seattle.

As long as Montero has no more problems with the ladies....

That is their strike partnership, Montero and Johnson. I just don't see Montero moving to anyone else in the league. The only way he is leaving is abroad and that might not even happen. I think that we should look to find the next "Montero" in South America instead of trading for this one. I know this is in the future but I hope that once this group of DPs are done we start to invest in at least 1 and maybe 2 young DPs that we can eventually sell on to Europe. We could look to give some of the good talents from this hemisphere a stage to perform and be rewarded after selling. But with the contracts we have signed, I think that we will continue to have older aged Europeans as our DP backbone.

Tweets & rumors suggest he maybe being sold this summer abroad which maybe why he's been on the bench. He's a DP too so no way he goes to LA

No we keep Buddle and lose Barret. I find Montero to have way longer goal droughts than Buddle when he is healthy. Healthy Buddle is a beast.

You must really underrate Le Toux if you think that Barrett is more or less equal trade bait. Richards would have been a fantastic addition to our squad, but I doubt we have anything we could have temped New York with.

I probably do under rate Le Toux but when I have watched him he always seems like a stiff. I was thinking that if NY was looking for a serviceable forward Barrett might have met their needs.

I don't know if I trust this or not. Like you said, lets wait a couple days to see if this is real. I think that I saw Barrett practicing with the team in the update from training in Portland today.

Edit: Nvm, he was conspicuously absent from the video, especially parts where the whole team was running together. Maybe there is more legs to this.

I checked his twitter because i thought he had tweeted about Portland but now I realize he suspiciously hadn't!

Our new insider has info confirming he has Norway interest and will be traveling there to train.

Can't get anymore official. Pretty weird for this to break today -- a few days after the introduction of a new insider blog. I'm guessing they wanted to keep it a secret for a few days.

Is this Barrett wanting to take advantage of playing in Europe/making more money or the Galaxy dumping him to make summer moves?

I'm sure the Galaxy would be very happy to let him go on a free transfer and get out from under his salary. From Barrett's perspective, he probably knows he'll get cut after this year and he needs to go after whatever opportunities are available.

Also signals what we are already seeing - his role is going to be filled by 1 Edson Buddle and looks like the LD/Keane partnership isn't going anywhere. Bruce ain't no dope.

This is smart for the club, and I hope Chad gets some playing time somewhere.

Surely they thought Buddle was coming to train not Barrett. I hope he plays like Rooney while he is training out there. Please let this team want him!

Someone in MLS News/Analysis actually posted this thought --

Clearing 220k from Barrett, plus a trade of maybe AJDLG (clearing another 90k) to New England for the top allocation spot = Carlos Bocanegra returning to his home town to finish his career as a max. salary player....

Not saying that's going to happen. But that sure could help shore up the defense....

Haven't we already gotten more than the extra $90K with the retirement of Cristman and the substitution of Rowe for Gaudette? Of course, that wouldn't get us the top allocation spot, but it does get us the necessary salary cap space, if Barrett is off the books, to offer a maximum non-DP salary.

Nevertheless, I think it is more likely that the Norwegian club takes Barrett on loan with an option to buy since he would be replacing a striker who they had on loan. Still, that would save us half of Barrett's salary or thereabouts.

I'd rather give up Franklin because AJ is the much better player. He is a good CB and started his career at RB. Funny that Franklin started at CB and ended up at RB and AJ started at RB and ended up at CB.

I don't know if I agree with that -- but it really has more to do with which player would be enticing to NE Revolution as a trade for the top allocation spot. And I think AJ with his much lower salary would be the player that might make them consider the trade....

This is probably all academic anyway - as it is purely speculation and based on nothing factual whatsoever...
