The bad part is that I will be in Lincoln (I assume you mean Nebraska) all day. But I'll have a bunch of lacrosse players with me and will probably be partially frozen from coaching all day so there is now way I can stay to watch it.
I thought the Mun2 coverage of Us/Mex sucked, but this is a joke!

Totally unrelated to the Menace, but completely related to the local sports scene: the Minnesota Swarm of the National Lacrosse League will be playing a preseason game against Colorado at Wells Fargo Arena on 12/5. Might be appealing to some of my fellow Menace fans...

i would say driving to Lincoln is out as a plausible idea. They canceled our lax tournament this morning b/c Omaha is getting pounded by snow

Hey guys, Drake is having Menace night at Cownie tomorrow when they play Eastern Illinois at 7pm. Menace fans are encouraged to wear Menace gear to the game (RED!). Some of us Red Army have plans to be there and so should you! Numerous Menace players are on Drake and Sean Molony plays for Eastern Illinois.

    shall i bring a drum?

btw, anyone have interest in getting the red army to support Drake at this year's MVC tournament? Des Moines is actually hosting it and i think it might be fun to supply a little atmosphere...

Well the weather certainly crapped on what would have been a nice night to watch a 3-0 win. Thanks to those that came out despite the rains. A good time was still had.

On a non-Menace note. A group of us will be gathering to watch tonight's MLS match at Victor's. Yeah, a core group of us are Fire fans but there are fans of other clubs coming too. If any of you can make it, please do. Even if it's just for part of the game. Help support Victor's, who have quickly taken to accommodating us after making them our new US pub in Des Moines.

Victor's Sports Club is on the corner of Douglas and 75th St in Urbandale. Game is at 7. They are friendly to families too, with booth tables and serving good food.

Thanks to the Red Army for coming out to support the players on both sides of the match. Sean would have preferred a different out come, but.... thanks again for his scarf. He reapprehended the scarf from his dad and took it back with him to Eastern to display with his other team scarfs.

Glad Sean enjoys the scarf. We look forward to seeing him next summer.....

    Two things:
    1) Drake game tomorrow (Wednesday). Anyone got plans for it? The east side needs better bars.
    2) Can anyone find accurate information on the original LBS? i.e. projected costs and specs. Just curious but appreciate the info. Used to be on Wikipedia I think but is no longer.

Yeah the cost information is gone. I have been wondering about it too. if I remember right, it was around $10 million tops. It was relatively cheap compared with other SSS in the country.

Re: Official 2009 Des Moines MENACE Post-Season Thread

    $10 million? Thats chump change!
Ok, its still a good amount of dough but thats nothing for a SSS. Especially if I remember correctly about the blue prints of it and how nice it was. And I do remember it being between $10-12 mil. but I wasn't sure.
That really seems reasonable, especially considering they could rent the stadium out for other events like other SSS do. Concerts, High School State Soccer and Football finals, MLS and other club exhibitions, etc.
Also, the city owns Principal Park and thats going pretty well I'd say. Maybe they'd see utility in owning a SSS as well. I know I'd appreciate a SSS over having white bridges in a city that gets heavy snow fall and ice (because they'll have to be repainted every damn year).
Now if only a desperate USL would drop the $750,000 francise fee for a city that has already proven itself, and give the team owners a little more stake in their own club...

Re: Official 2009 Des Moines MENACE Post-Season Thread

I agree with the bridges wholeheartedly. What a waste of money and for what? The arches harken to St. Louis, not Des Moines or Iowa. Plus, Houston has the same bridges - little ball things and all - only in red and white. I noticed that a couple of years ago when I was down there. Seriously, why are we copying the styles of other cities?
Still, with all of the fuss over WFA, there is no way the city/county/state will build/own a SSS in the near future.
