Didn't see it, but apparently JJ attempted to tackle one of our players from behind, and the ref thought it was not a good idea on his part, thus the red. On a more positive note, I think Jones got the assist on the S04 goal.
First Ever Strait Red of his career, and a bunch of idiots call him a foul machine. D-Mids will and should get fouls. J Jones is brilliant and knows when to go in hard. See the tackle on Neymar when he showed the Brazilians to quit screwing around. Anyone who grew up playing d-mid or defense understands that. Anyone who doesn't want our team to get pushed around should figure it out
Out of curiosity has there ever been a notable d-mid who took that long in career to get a strait red. Kind of crazy as it seems like the occasional red would be part of the territory of being an enforcer like Jermaine
Highlights vs. Stuttgart yesterday, w/the sequence in which he earned an assist starting at the 0:20 mark: On the downside, his club lost 3-1, surrendering a hat trick to former St. Louis Billiken Vedad Ibisevic. Not to mention his 1st ever straight red.
If only it were possible . Although it is interesting to note that 3 individuals that figure prominantly on the stat sheet, both for good and ill, have sugnificant American connections: Vedad Ibesevic who scored the hat trick, and Sakai and Jones who were both ejected after seeing straight red.
http://www.soccerbyives.net/2012/12/jones-suspended-four-games.html Jones gets a 4 game suspension for his red card. Complete and total bullshit. I've softened my original stance that a red was warranted but to add 3 additional games on top of it is just plain ridiculous. He has 24 hrs. to appeal. Maybe reputation comes into play but this is a complete seperate incident for the Marco Reus foot stamp.
JJ not happy, and rightly so: Jermaine Jones @Jermainejunior 4 games suspended? Thats crazy in my opinion.
kicker reporting the harsh penalty is because he is a repeat offender. http://www.kicker.de/news/fussball/...lungstaeter_jones-muss-viermal-zuschauen.html and the appeal has been made http://www.schalke04.de/aktuell/new...sperre-fuer-jones-s04-legt-einspruch-ein.html And he is still eligible for next week's cup match.
You can't lump those two incidents together. They are not even remotely the same. Eight matches for the stamp was appropriate. Four matches for the tackle just seems unfair and overly harsh. I hate to say it but it sounds like they have a vendetta against JJ. Making strong accusations isn't normally my thing but it feels that way.
Hey, don't shoot the messenger. In the kicker article it was mentioned that he has received 5 red cards for Schalke, but that is since 2007/08. Seems like this is more about reputation. I suspect it will be reduced to 3 games, which would keep him out through Jan 26. Four games would be through Feb. 2.
Oh I wasn't! This is his first stright red, correct? Doesn't that count for something?? The stamp was caught on video and wasn't seen by the ref. Oh well..................
Yes first straight red after only 6 yellow/reds in his career (league only). Nonetheless, he has the reputation...
First straight red, but a huge number of yellows and general a lot of hard tackles per game (how much did he have to sit out last season simply to yellow card accumulation and the Reus incident), if you see him play like that every week in the league, it sticks in the mind and cumulates, and hey presto, he has earned himself a reputation. So Jones was judged a repeat offender or rather as having repeatedly engaged in unsporting behaviour, if you prefer, and if you look at his transfermarkt thread most people correctly predicted that he would get around 3 or 4 matches as a ban. I do think that it is still a bit harsh if you make the direct comparision with Sakai, who's foul was much worse, so mabey they'll reduce it to three.
Jermaine has to be doing this on purpose. His goals in an interview was to captain the US national team and play more for the national team. January camp accomplishes this. Plus Schalke dont really play anyone good in the league until Bayern when he would be eligible to play.
