Call me crazy, but based on previous comments about transfer window strategies, I'm not believing anything Nicky Sak says until its signed, sealed and delivered.

I agree and the people thinking that Sak should or will be fired are delusional. He is the CEO and a partial owner, they won't spend money on a new training facility or big name players, they aren't going to spend money to buy him out.

Agree with your general point but it seems to me that asking whether Sak should be fired is much different from speculating about if he actually will be fired. The words are far from interchangeable in this context.

I'll give you that, yes I agree he has been a less then stellar CEO, and should get kicked in the junk....But we aren't gonna be able to do that kickin' and he will be around with that smug smile for a while.

Hilarious! I was just reading about the Sounders upcoming vote on retaining Adrian Hanauer last week and laughing to myself about the Union instituting a similar policy. I think it might be run something like this:

Do we have to wait 30-90 days for the result?

Fcuk it, the puppies are back on the clock. Get a big time striker or they get it.

I think on this one, the puppies are the armed ones. Nothing will happen. The worse thing that could happen now is what has been happening, the U start winning some games and scoring more before the end of the season and we will hear about how this is the team for the future and need more time etc.

And we all know Sack is lazy so why do any work, look at the coaching decision.

Is Herculez Gomez considered a "big time forward"?

Yes. He is a proven striker and would be a big draw as a (sometimes) starter on the USMNT.

His work-rate would also quickly endear him to Union fans. He's also a quality finisher which we desperately need. And just think of the tifo possibilities.
    #HerculezToUnion indeed...

Wouldn't he be subject to the dreaded Allocation Draft that is used for returning US National Team embers/former MLS Players? Aren't we toward the bottom of that list after the Soumare Acquisition?

I'm all for this move though. He'd be a great addition and would fill a serious void in our roster.

Good question. But didn't Gomez leave on a free transfer? I can't remember if he was offered a contract by KC before he left. If so, he might still belong to SKC. They seem to have a plethora of attacking options - Sapong, Bunbury, Kamara, even Dwyer from the SuperDraft - and may be open to a trade. Allocation money for the win!

I think the allocation rules would make getting Gomez difficult.

Doesn't allocation reset at the end of the year based upon order of finish?

If we acquired him, we'd have two Gomezes. They would have to change the names on their jerseys. Of course, the ownership would never dig that deep in their pockets for him, so keep dreaming.

That's the thing though..SKC does have a lot of strikers, but they aren't great at finishing, they are just decent compared to the other playoff teams. For the amount of chances SKC creates, they're finishing rate is actually worse then the Union's percentage wise. If you add a clinical finisher like Herc to that team................. they'd be even more difficult to beat, and arguably the best team in the league.

It does. And seeing how we are currently 14th overall gives us a relatively good spot in the allocation order next year. Lost first round SuperDraft pick be damned!
Not if Gabriel isn't here next season, which I am adamantly NOT opposed to. Ownership wouldn't dig deep to change the names on the jerseys, or shell out money to secure Herculez (or someone like him)? Plus, we have 2 Farfans on the team ...
Don't their rights to him expire after 2 years, though? He signed with Puebla in January 2010, so when this winter's transfer window opens it'll have been 3 years.

Sounds like at the end of his stint with (at the time) the Wizards, he had a falling out with Peter Vermes. If they still own his rights, would ole 99 bottles want him back?

Gabriel Gomez already wears G. Gomez on his shirt for some unknown reason. No change needed!

It's obviously because they're prepping for shirts that say H. Gomez on them.
