There is a thread at https://www.bigsoccer.com/forum/showthread.php?s=&threadid=59869 asking for a representative team from each confederation and in typical fashion everybody in posting "who cares" for the Oceania team.

This is our chance to pick an Oceania representative side. Here's a start:

    GK:
    Micheal Utting (NZL)

    Forwards:
    Mark Viduka (AUS)
    Harry Kewell (AUS)

    Midfield:
    Brett Emerton (AUS)
    Stan Lazaridis (AUS)

    Who else....

The Australian national side plus maybe a New Zealander on the bench for diversity.

yes great idea. Sorry Kiwi's but it is a sad fact we do produce players that take all the limelight and are far better players. I am not saying you guys suck coz u made it to the confed cup......that is another story now :p ;)

    Hmmmm
Shaun Murphy on the bench as a right back.
Craig Moore as a central sweeper
Kevin Muscat as a left back.

Mori on the bench as a forward.
Petkovic as 3rd string keeper, if not reserve keeper.

    Danny hay as a back.

go find the australian team that took on england and i'd say its very close to that. theres just not enough diversity in quality to do an oceania team thats not dominated by aussies. maybe u should do a asian/oceania rep team. that would have a little more diversity.

    GK: dunno

    LB: dunno
    CB: Fan Ziyi (china)
    CB: dunno
    RB: dunno

    LM: Kewell (australia)
    CM: Nataka (japan)
    CM: dunno
    RM: Emerton (australia)

    AT: dunno
    AT: Viduka (australia)

fill in the blanks. im sure there would be a few more japanese players in there. who were the ones that play at feyenoord?.

    GK:
    Mark Schwarzer

    Backs:
    Lucas Neill
    Craig Moore
    Ljubo Milecevic
    Danny Tiatto

    Midfield:
    Brett Emerton
    Josip Skoko
    Paul Okon
    Harry Kewell

    Forwards:
    Mark Viduka
    John Aloisi

    Substitutes:
    Joe Didulica
    Vince Grella
    Hayden Foxe
    Paul Agostino
    Mile Sterjovski
    Scott Chipperfield

Glorious Fan, how many of these guys do you reckon should be in the team.

If your talking the Oceania rep team the probably all of em (bar maybe one or two). If your talking the Asian/Oceania rep team then only Viduka, Kewell and Emerton. You might also consider Lucas Neill in there, he proved to be a VERY good defender in the premiership last season. The opta stats at www.planetfootball.com rated him as one of the best defenders in the league last season.

For this thread we are looking for an Oceania representative side as any AFC players can't be included.

    A few thoughts:

    1) I've never seen Utting play, but how sure are you guys that he's better than Schwarzer?

    2) Esala Masi (Fiji) is good enough to be somewhere on the roster, possibly as a starter. Simon Elliott (New Zealand) should probably start when he's on form - he's supposedly been New Zealand's best midfielder for the last two or three years.

You never can be. At the end of the day it just becomes a judgement call. Utting was the keeper for New Zealand against the USA recently. You may remember the three quick fire saves he made in the first few minutes.

We'll add them to the roster.

Utting has been absolutely shocking when I have seen him for the kingz at Glory games but Perth Oval and the travel is a factor i guess but the Confederations cup also is a long way away.

    But he is pretty good!
I must see him on his off days?

In the keeper you want consistent goodness, not flashes of brilliance like you want in a striker. So is Utting consistent?

I'd like to see Grella (Aus, plays at Empoli) played in midfield, or on the bench. He's a hard-working tough tackler and settles the midfield something savage. He's still young though, so maybe he's for the future. The midfield's already looking pretty good.

I reckon we need one or two more world class strikers and we'd be away!

Petko for number 1 keeper pozzi!

Jason is fine leave him as starting keeper.

BRING BACK BOZZO! :p nahh just kidding! Utting could be the reserve keeper. That would be perfect.

why are we avoiding premiership and european based keepers? They face world class opponents week in week out. Surely they'd be better between the sticks?

Schwarzer is a great keeper but I reckon Petkovic would be better by a glove! I thin k i spelt Mark's name wrong!

Nah - i think you got it right first go! I'm not just thinking of Schwarzer. There are a bunch of other great ones, and formerly great (ie. bosnich). Didilica (pretty sure i've got that wrong) was awesome in goal for ajax, the few times he got a run out.

In a bag with a cat.
Lucas Neill has to be right back, he is very good indeed. I think Tim Cahill of Milwall may be eligable to play for Australia, and he's highly rated.

I'm pretty sure Tim Cahill tried to declare for the Republic of Ireland last year, but was blocked by FIFA because he had played for Samoa at U17 level while on vacation there (visiting his Samoan Grandmother, I think).
