Yes they do. It's actually a pretty cool story. "The NY National Guard division adopted Orion as a shoulder patch in 1918. The unit's nickname plays off the name of Maj. Gen. John F. O'Ryan, the 27th Division Commander in World War I. Seven stars in red are on a circled background of black, with the monogram NYD (New York Division) in red. Black stands for iron, the red for blood." http://ny.ng.mil/27BCT/Pages/History.aspx
This also works for me. Could be classy. Except I might prefer ask navy for home and white as a clash
i like the round badge, obviously the other one is hideous, i don't care if its shape comes from bla bla bla or ma ma ma... it's just too ugly a shape to put on a football shirt. however the round badge is not perfect, there's just too many circles in it in my opinion and the NYC could have been better / covered more space / been thicker. another matter, i don't see why so many people think it should have no orange, this is a new FC, they want to draw as many support as possible, they're not just gonna alienate the mets fans or those who just don't like the yankees, in fact i think they should have used more orange in the circular badge. on the overall, i think that the circular badge will be just fine for the new club (and i think it's safe to say that's their new badge, i don't see how the other one could get more votes), but to be honest i expected much better. I'm down with the round shape, i just don't like the fact they couldn't find one good symbol of NY to put on the badge and to make it look cool, without any obvious symbols on it it just looks plain and not as exciting as i personally expected.
Etihad Airways Will Also Sponsor New York City FC: http://fansided.com/2014/03/24/etihad-airways-sponsor-mls-club-nyc-fc/#!Be7rL
Actually WSJ article says they will sponsor the whole league. We don't know yet who will sponsor NYCFC.

Something like that would be my preference. Keep it simple. I could see the jersey looking kind of tacky if they try to incorporate all the colors just on the jersey.
After watching the tragic Helsingborg vs Djurgarden game the other night I was inspire by the Djurgarden kits and thought maybe New York could go for a sky blue and navy striped design like this:
I love it it can use used with navy pants and socks at home and with light blue pants and socks as an away kit
Its not bad but I think they would have to incorperate orange into it or we would look like Sporting kc with vertical stripes.
So Melbourne Hearts have filed an application with the FFA notifying them of a change of name/colors/logo. They would become Melbourne City, have a new logo and wear a sky blue jersey. An article discussing the changes, found here, states... "New York City, the third club in the City football family which joins the MLS in 2015, will wear City’s sky blue"
