Yeah, for reals. From Cosmo's bluster, sounds like we'll have to call this hypothetical SG the Sons of the Sons of Ben...
The quality of posts is this forum has gone up as well. Maybe posters are afraid of the moderators wrath. I think we should always have at least one moderator with a late term pregnancy.
Apples and Oranges. I know you might disagree but I really feel that futbol really brings forth different emotions. That's why I would never discount the DCU - NJ rivalry. I really feel they could co exist and on many different levels. As for you guys, you would just end up hating ANOTHER part of this metro area. Besides I think that this could only make all three clubs even stronger.
Listen at the end up the day, nothing would make me happier than to have the infamous Barra Brava/SE/LA Norte in the stands in NYC. I like the way you guys bring the noise and to stand across the field from a group that I can say I admire, I find it an honor. Laugh and make fun of me all you want. But when the time comes I'm sure that we all will be having a good time. And in the end isn't that want futbol is all about? Last Sunday, at Giants Stadium, I had the pleasure to meet many people that I've traded comments with on these boards. Shook hands and made friends. I met the Son's of Ben and the ESC. I met a couple of cats from Boston and Chicago but the underlying thing of it all was the fun we were all having. I hope that you bring that noise this way when we finally have our team. I for one will be here waiting, grill and asado ready for the friends from the South that will have miraculously CROSSED THE BRIDGE!
yeah BYOB, I don't drink and that sh*t gets expensive! lol I will provide the ice if need be! lol lol
I'll believe it when I see it. This new team will be the same MLS-quality play that the allegedly untold legions of soccer fans in NYC have rejected, and probably even worse because it will be an expansion team. We'll see by the third month of the season whether the facts that this MLS team is maybe an hour closer and that it avoids the allegedly huge disadvantage of being soooooo far away that NYC fans can't relate to it gets all those fans to come out.
You mean the folks who actually give enough of a damn to go to a game. Even when that game is in an oversized cavern and the team sucks? As opposed some overinflated fan-boys who pine on their keyboard for a team that's not coming back? How exactly are the ESC - who have shown up at RFK in good numbers on multiple occasions - not a "real supporters group"? WTF?
If you read the thread in its entirety and not just nit picked posts, you would have seen that I wasnt calling out the ESC. Also I wasn't speaking about their dedication either. Because they are probably one of the more dedicated groups in the MLS. What I was referring to was in terms of the support given, or as we refer to it, el aguante. As for your comment: "As opposed some overinflated fan-boys who pine on their keyboard for a team that's not coming back?" I really don't think that it was called for. We were all playing nice here.
I think that it will be a good thing even for DC UNITED fans if in 2011 will there be a true NYC soccer team in MLS.
Ooh, ooh, I know this one. A real supporters group supports a real team. By deduction, therefore,... (never let it be said that I am above a cheap shot)
After a few conflicting opinions, I figured that I might as well post this hear and maybe get a response. Is NJ still considered DC biggest rival? Is the hatred the same in return? Personally I dont see much hatred anymore from either side.
I think they are our most hated opponents - if you ask the old-timers here. Chicago is doing its best to take over that spot. It would help a lot if NYRB could pose a 'credible threat' (I'm so TSA) now and again. For them to show up here every year and play the role of Lt. Fodder diminishes the rivalry. If they're going to do that, they should wear red jerseys.
Yes, I've noticed that over the past couple of seasons. As if DCU just doesnt care about NJ. Maybe I'm wrong but thats just my impression.
