Isn't mid-April to late August about the same length of season as WUSA and WPS?

It is 4.5 months, that is a short season by soccer standards, but I am not sure if that is normal for USA women soccer standards.

Makes player compensation look a little better.

    15K pay for 4.5 months (say 5.5 for pre-season) = 2,700 per month.

Just like WPS, which had pre-season March-ish and then playoffs through August. And most players working another job (or going to school) in the off-season.

Definitely. Though that can be considered in the "another job" category.

Fans and NWSL are being silly (at best) if they think players aren't going to look to play elsewhere. But I semi-ranted about that on another thread so... :speechless:

As was mentioned, it was normal for WPS, but it's definitely long by "USA women's soccer standards" as WPSL W-League are about three months each (since they rely heavily on college kids).

Yes, but EPSL and W-league are more in line with the amateur men’s leagues like NPSL and PDL.

Now you, roger and kool aid are right

WUSA also was April to early September and WPS was also 4.5 months long.

So 5 months or less is the standard for pro USA soccer leagues.

NWSL is no different than the other two in terms of season length.

    Yes.

    WUSA 2001: April 14-August 26
    WUSA 2002: April 13-August 24
    WUSA 2003: April 5- August 24
    WPS 2009: March 29-August 21
WPS 2010: April 10-September 26 (The only exception, but players complained about losing college coaching opportunities, so it wasn't repeated.)
    WPS 2011: April 9-August 28

Some people on Twitter, though apparently no-one officially connected to the league or known news sources, are saying Nike will be the jersey provider. Anyone else have more solid confirmation/repudiation?

Nike would make sense since they've got the deal with the USSF. I believe Mexico is adidas and Canada is Umbro.

I had also heard it was Nike for every frnachise, but I haven't been able to confirm that.
If so, all players (including Canadians and Mexicans) in this league will need to wear the same jersey as the rest of the players on their same team, which would be Nike. It's not like Alex Morgan is going to be wearing a Nike Portland Thorns jersey, and Sinclair is going to be wearing an Umbro Portland Thorns jersey.

Of course, if they took a league survey of all the current fans of the league, I wonder what % of those fans would state they'd rather see Alex Morgan not wearing a jersey. Probably at least 15% of the fans. And that goes to over 25% if those fans are interviewed after having a beer during the match.

It may be that they end the season at the end of August so that players can get college coaching gigs.

I was wondering how Carmelina Moscato could keep her job at Wisconsin.

And most players will be done before the final game on Aug 31.

Wow, Labor Day is early this year, the 2nd!

The GM of the Chicago Red Stars has reported via Twitter that she has a copy of the team's schedule but has no idea when it will be made public.
