I only skimmed through the article so I don't know much about what they want to do, I saw the Rome Colosseum a lot...

I think our current stadium has a unique look to it, maybe building onto that instead of an entirely new one?

EDIT: Nevermind, I just saw this "Since Della Valle couldn't get approval in Firenze to build a new stadium"

If I understood correctly, the comment about not spending more than revenue generated sounds like it is a voluntary decision. I thought UEFA said that policy would be a requirement soon, if not now. In fact, I saw a headline the other day where Abramovich was complaining about his hands being tied preventing him from loaning Chelsea more money. Can anybody clarify the fair play rules concerning breaking even?

Main idea - Team cannot spend more than earns which means that transfer policy like Chelsea or ManCity are doing should be over soon.

The club opened its new training facility today. ADV is really aging and you could really tell that the question about a half-empty stadium really hurt him.

The comune has officially offered us 30 hectares and Renzi (sorta like the mayor, I guess?) would like to break ground before the end of the calendar year. The club wants like 80 hectares and have not yet agreed to it.

    Yeah, Renzi is the mayor.

That is RIGHT by the airport. Not sure what that means, really --- but on the positive side it is way closer to the city center than the places that they were looking before -- which were out by the A1, on the west side of the city.

Near where the "A" marker is located.....

The Franchi looks VERY outdated. I don't feel the setup. Maybe the new one can get the fans closer to the action.

I dunno - I think it might be better to be farther away from the action, the way that this team plays.

Scary how the ESPN3 commentators said Fiore's bad run mirrors Sampdoria's last year... :(

Yeah, no doubt. It's a very close comparison.

After working and living there and knowing how things get or don't get done and/or built in Florence, I'll believe the new stadium when I see it.

With the economical situation right now in Italy I cannot see a new Staduim in Florence any time soon, Unless it is all privatly funded which I think will never happen. Believe me The Stadio Franchi like this years team is such a eyesore.

I agree privately funded stadium will never happen. I know they initially built the Franchi Stadium for the 1934 WC then remodeled it for 3 games of the 1990 finals. That is 56 years later so you can just imagine how long it takes to get things done in Italy. Also, when talking to to most people , they thought it was a waste to spend all the money to build a perfectly good stadium for only 3 games.

Compared to a lot of the other stadia in Italy, the Franchi is an absolute gem.

While I get the desire for a better stadium, I think we need to spend money on a better club first.

it would provide construction jobs and if they build it with a shopping center it will provide even more jobs...

If the people were not taxed to pay for the stadium and, instead, used the money to buy beef jerky chalupas then the guys who make beef jerky chalupas would have jobs. Do you really want to put beef jerky chalupa workers out on the streets?
