Battery wins inaugural Carolina Challenge Cup Golf Invitational

The USL First Division Charleston Battery won the inaugural Carolina Challenge Cup Golf Invitational tournament Thursday afternoon by three strokes. The Captain’s Choice format tournament was played under strict match conditions at Rivertowne Country Club in Mount Pleasant and featured teams from the Battery and three Major League Soccer clubs.

The winning Battery team included Charleston Battery Head Coach, Mike Anhaeuser, Charleston Battery Assistant Coach Mark Watson and former Charleston Battery striker Paul Conway.

Each team in this week’s Carolina Challenge Cup was allotted three foursomes in the Carolina Challenge Cup Golf Invitational. Players in the tournament included former US Men’s National Team Head Coach Bruce Arena and former US Men’s National Team Captains; Claudio Reyna and John Harkes.

Charleston Battery midfielder Chris Corcoran won the long drive competition with a 310 yard strike on the 3rd hole. Houston Dynamo defender Eddie Robinson won the closest to the pin competition with a stroke that fell 6 feet short of the hole on the 8th pin.

The winning Charleston Battery team will be awarded the tournament trophy during the Carolina Challenge Cup presentation at Blackbaud Stadium on Saturday night.
