Cash strapped 'Cudas' confirm USL participation And they haven't really spent any money yet. 26 road games, it's going to get worse.
Having read most of the articles the Antigua Observer writes, I have come to the conclusion that either everybody talks like that or everybody writes like that.
Well, they signed some more guys. Presumably, they went home and will come back, unless they stayed in or near Charlotte before going to Wilmington and Charleston this weekend. But I think it's going to be touch and go. And I don't know how many games they can hope to win.
I just looked at their schedule - all games away!?!? Why is that? Sure they can not survive in this situation. I was hoping to see them in CCL as CFU representative, but that seems impossible now.
Yes, they are playing all 26 games on the road, for reasons that have not been adequately explained. I do not know how they will generate revenue.
So they've lost their first three matches, 2-0, 2-0 and 4-0. They do the Tampa/Orlando split this weekend. Then Harrisburg/Richmond, then Pittsburgh/Dayton. I honestly don't know who they'll be able to beat.
So no CFU Cup for them, as it is scheduled for 26-30 April? No official schedules for that competition, but it will be played in before mentioned period. I read somewhere they gave up their spot, but nothing official.
they were abysmal on Saturday vs. the Battery. really should have been 7 or 8 to 0. Battery had 27 shots on goal or one ever three minutes or so. Antigua barely made it into the Battery's defensive third. They were obviously tired from the match the night before but they have expanded their roster. They had 17 on the bench and Former Battery midfielder JC Mack was in Charleston to speak to the team about joining them http://www.chssoccer.net/battery-v-antigua-game-notes/ it is going to be long season for them, but they did seem to frustrate Charlotte and wilmington for stretches in those matches so who knows? even a blind squirrel finds a nut sometimes.
Last team to go winless was Sacramento in 1999, IIRC. They lost a match in shootout and got their only point for it. They also had the odd circumstance where a result counted twice by league decree. They were not even interested in paying to rent the stadium for another game, so hey said "Whatever the result of this next game is, it's going to count twice." And they lost Iike 5-0 or something.
well Mr. Kenn...where there is a will...folks can find a way...just too funny http://www.antiguaobserver.com/government-gives-lands-for-cudas-support/
Dexter Blackstock plays for Notts Forest, so he possibly could have contributed $100k. Mikele Leigertwood (whose name is misspelled in the story...he is Antiguan, after all) plays for Reading, so that's a possibility, too. But Justin Cochrane plays for Boreham Wood FC in the Conference South, and I'm thinking his career path doesn't look like one that would have him able to throw $100k around.
http://www.antiguaobserver.com/epi-challenges-governments-allegiance-to-cudas/ “I find it quite strange and peculiar that the government and I think that most people who know me well, know that I have supported the Honorable Prime Minister and the UPP government for a number of years in terms of voting and I find it quite strange that they would take crown lands, the lands of the people of Antigua & Barbuda, and give basically to a private organisation, a private company owned by Gordon ‘Banks’ Derrick and Fernando Abraham to conduct their business and I am saying that if you have opened this Pandora box to helping private businesses, then what are you going to do for other businesses?” (FA presidential hopeful and former A&B international, Veron “Epilus”) Edwards said.
Hey since the Barracudas do not have their own thread, how about renaming this one to Barracudas FC? What say you mods? @ButlerBob, @mutinywxgirl, @Shipdawg Well I guess that there is this one. https://www.bigsoccer.com/community/...-to-play-all-home-matches-in-florida.1980751/
Dear god, I hope Antigua's government moves as slow as ours and we can at least make it through the season before they go t$ts up...........
glad at least someone of stature in Antigua is showing some basic common sense...this "deal" has to be worse than building that FL Marlins baseball stadium and then sticking taxpayers to pay the bills.
Uhhhhhh.....no. This would not be a worse deal. If the Antigua government sold some of its lands for (what is probably) less than market value and gave the proceeds ($100,000 or thereabouts) to a for-profit enterprise, that's certainly cause for an investigation and might rise to the level of Antiguan Scandal. But Dade County will have paid, when all is said and done, $1.1 BILLION by 2048 for the Marlins' Stadium. $1.1 billion. No, this would not be worse.
you are not thinking about all of that tourist revenue or the jobs that are being created with that $1.1 billion ;-)
VSI head coach coach Weston is history. No explanation yet as to why. They're 4-0-3 and won their last match.
