Brother, this is an extremely important act by Northwestern. It could truly upset the applecart. If these kids can collectively bargain, what does that mean for the future of the collegiate game if players win the right for pay or some other form of compensation? Do colleges drop football?

I think if it comes to that, they'll pay 'em real money- not NFL money but real enough to upset a bunch of the Pollyanna fans who watch cfb specifically because they're not making a living wage from playing.

Only fair they receive a wage. Those purist assholes should think of it was work study.

The other argument that drives me crazy is the one about the cost of a college education that the student athlete gets for free. For comparison sake, the cost of tuition for out of state at Ohio State is $35K per year for tuition and room and board. Many of these universities are making out like bandits. Talk about exploiting the student athletes in football and basketball.

Agreed. Their exploits, especially the SEC West's upper two or so teams, have made millions for everyone else involved with cfb. But I think they're gonna be alone in their efforts.

Here is what is going to happen: All non-revenue sports are going to get dropped. You guys have to read the budgets of all the athletic departments. Very few make profits. All the football revenue is used to pay for all the other sports. Same deal with high schools. So either pay them something along with cutting women sports or enjoy that 60k scholarship at Northwestern. That is 60k tax free dollars a year that you don't have to worry about if you do it right. Also, good luck in getting around Title 9 with this.
