For those that are interested (and you should be if you are a true Newcastle fan), Newcastle Utd Legend Nolberto Solano, made his debut for the Peruvian outfit known as Universitario de Deportes on Wednesday, this in the CONMEBOL Copa Libertadores tournament. The match saw the Latino Geordie score a goal on his debut, however it wasnt all smiles for Solano as his team lost the match 2-1, this against Paraguayan heavyweight Libertad.
Nolberto Solano, who was previously at Greek side Larissa (along with other former Newcastle players in Laurent Robert and Nikolaos Dabizas), moved to Universitario in the January of this year, and has signed on a two year contract. Solano has announced that he will be retiring in his home nation of Peru, in which following his two year stint with current Peruvian side Universitario, he will bow out at a local club known as Sports Boys del Callao, in which this club represents the district for which he was born.
I was personally expecting to see Solano hook up with his very good pal and current Toronto FC Manager John Carver at some point, and play for the MLS outfit of Canada, however Solano has chose to return home, this where he will close his career and I wish the guy all the best.

Cheers, when I buy a new jersey there is a distinct possibility Solano will go on the back of it. In modern football it's tough to find a class act like him, he is certainly the Peruvian Geordie.

On Sunday Feb 15th, Nolberto Solano played his second game for Peruvian outfit Universitario de Deportes, this time in what was his first Primera Division Peruana match for his new club. The match was also the club's first of the brand new season, and it saw Universitario playing away to Alianza Atletico. In the match Alianza took the lead on the 55th minute, through Jonathan Rodriguez, however their lead did not last long, as two minutes later Universitario equalised on the 57th minute, and it was Toon Legend Nolberto Solano who scored the goal, which was therefore his first league goal for his new club. 10 minutes later, on the 67th minute, Universitario scored again, this time to take the lead, and the goal scorer again was Nolberto Solano. Solano's 67th minute goal turned out to be the winning goal, and the final result was Alianza Atletico 1-2 Universitario de Deportes. Solano has now played two games for Universitario, and scored 3 goals, therefore an excellent start for the Latino Geordie.

Is there any stopping Nolberto Solano at present?
Yet again the Latino Geordie was on the score sheet for his new club Universitario de Deportes, in which he gave his side a surprise 1-0 win over World Class opposition in the form of Argentina's San Lorenzo. This was a great win for Universitario, and you would have got an excellent price at the bookies if chosen to back them.

It would have been nice to see Nobby play for an MLS team instead of the Greek team, but i'm glad he is in the best team of Peru.

Last week Nolberto Solano had a day off from participating in Peru based league action, this due to him not being used in Universitario de Deportes game against Sport Ancash. The result of this match was Universitario destroying Sport Ancash 5-1, and it marked the first game of the season that players besides Solano netted Universitario goals (Espinoza 2, Augusto Orejuela 2, and Bustamante, were the goal scorers). This week however Nolberto Solano returned to action, this in an away encounter against Club Sportivo Cienciano. This particular match saw Cienciano open the scoring on 30 minutes in which Romero Sellares found the net. On 45 minutes, Nolberto Solano was brought into the game as a substitute, and guess what? Nolberto Solano saved the day for the Peruvian outfit. On the 90th minute Universitario were awarded a penalty, in which Solano stepped up to take it and he slotted the shot in the back of the net. Nolberto Solano has now played 4 games for Universitario and scored 5 goals within this amount. Below are highlights to the Club Sportivo Cienciano vs Universitario de Deportes game:
