I saw on Goff's website that there is already an American at Boca. He's got a pretty slick website too: http://www.nicolasrussofutbol.com/inicio-ing.php
Over a month has passed now since hearing about the Boca Jrs interest, and now the Argentine league season is underway. Anyone have any updates on Gaitan's situation?
So it looks like he has resurfaced back in the US, and played in the DA select showcase: http://www.ussoccer.com/News/Develo...718-Academy-Select-Match-Ends-in-11-Draw.aspx I wonder why he decided to leave Argentina.
He's playing in the showcase because it's Christmas break. But he has no intent to leave Argentina...he was just offered by Boca Juniors. http://www.bigapplesoccer.com/sections/youth2.php?article_id=29301
Does anyone know if this kid still intends to play for the US? Why wasn't he playing in the Nike friendlies?
He was in the last residency group for a short period of time. I'm fairly certain he's a '95, making him a year too old to play in the Nike friendlies. He's represented the US since he left residency, and will get his fair share of callups to youth teams if he keeps progressing. I doubt he'll jump ship for Argentina. Plus, according to that article his father represented the US at the youth level and coaches in the Development Academy. Let's hope he gets good enough to make us nervous, though.
Gaitan named to U.S. U-18 training camp: http://www.bigapplesoccer.com/sections/youth2.php?article_id=29484
I see no reason to worry here. Sometimes players land in great situations and it's in the players and our best interest to leave well enough alone. Having him live and play in Argentina is much better than having him at Bradenton or commuting back and forth for every friendly. I suspect the same is probably true of Emmerson and a few others
Interesting ....Gaitan's father is the techical director of the Albertson SC and they have Gaitan and Greenberg both getting called up. It pays to have quality people running the show
http://www.bigapplesoccer.com/sections/youth2.php?article_id=29301 He's playing in Argentina for Argentinos Juniors, and Boca Juniors submitted a bid to them with an "extremely high" transfer fee.
ngaitan5 Nicholas Gaitan Been dreaming about this since I was 5. Just signed for Boca Jrs #thankyougod
Or if we really want to dream, Fernando Redondo (who started in the Argentinos Juniors youth system!).
