Why in the hell would anyone care if you bound by a financial penalty clause in your contract when you are practically the king of the campus and some could say the city. Caleb Porter has an awesome thing going, especially for USA soccer, making 350k a year, if not more on other deals, job security pretty much guaranteed because his teams are consistent performers, not a whole lot of pressure because college soccer is not under a media microscope, gets a public employee pension, and get to raise a family in the Midwest (much better place to raise children than in the South). Sounds like an awesome deal to me, especially for soccer in the USA.
as a fan of soccer growing in the US, I'd like to see Porter make the eventual jump to the pros and repeat his success in the MLS. If Porter can create a successful MLS team with his style, it would do wonders for growing the sport in the US.
Eventually he will. No doubt about it. So where would he go at the moment for a team that needs a new coach that is ideal for his style, with a group of players that can his style at the moment's notice? The only team I can think of is Toronto FC. Some could argue Portland Timbers, but that narrow field will kill his scheme.
In no way am I suggesting anything, but back in 2000, we played DC in Columbus to a 0-0 tie after 100 minutes. Following the game, Ray Hudson said something like "we were a damn good football team" and how we "scared the piss out of him" or something like that. He had no idea it was Cub Scout night. He had no idea that our press conferences were broadcast throughout the stadium. It was good times with the DC fans on the south bridge in front of the scoreboard.
Everyone can say what they want but do you know who is probably dying to take the reins of an original 1996 team and ******** everyone in the ass? Steve Nicol.
I am surprised no one mentioned Brian McBride. I don't know how he would be as a coach or if he even wants it but he is high on the Crew legend list.
Any more suggestions as we draw closer to the abyss postseason? I'd still take Colin Clarke or Gary Smith. Heck, maybe Smith could bring Iro and tRR back to Ohio!
At points, yes. At other points, very yes. Then you have the times when the play runs through Higs, and that is soccer gold. Granted it is night and day better than what we had in June, but it still has been ugly. 4-3 against New England wasn't pretty, nor was it when we lost to them. NY? Chicago? Chivas? Not one of those matches were incredibly inspiring football.
This 21st century thinking. Cutting edge and ahead of its time. Now what about one of the former USWNT greats like Mia Hamm or Julie Foudy? Can players date the coach?
How about fans? If so my vote goes for Alex Morgan. Think of all the money that could be raised doing a raffle/auction for "DP the Coach for another DP Night"
