Who loans players out to their own league? Lol. Oh Cosmos, you never fail to give me a good laugh.

Yeah, it's much better keep the player idle during half a season.

I get that, but loaning them to not only your future opponent but your first league opponent? I would think even another NASL club or possibly a USL team would have been better. Of course, loaning him out to play in nPower League 2 would have been better.

This is normal around the world. And the Cosmos has the benefit of loaning the player during a period of time when the team will not been competing.

The story says that they loaned him out "for the spring season." The Cosmos aren't playing in the spring season. It sounds like he will be back with the Cosmos by the time they do start playing.

Still it seems odd that they loaned him out to a team in the same league. You'd think they'd avoid loaning players to their competitors.

i was thinking that too. i guess it's not unheard of, but i think we can all admit it's unusual... or maybe it's just a handful of us that are thinking we wouldn't have done it :-/

Man City loaned Adebayor to Tottenham, just to name one example. It's really quite common.

They haven't competed yet though. I mean it would be odd if the two teams were playing but the Cosmos have no official games for at least 5 months.

I am 90% sure MLS clubs have loaned players to each other. I just can't think of any examples. It is rare in these parts though.

As a Strikers fan, what makes me sad is we could't find a better player than six months of the immortal Stefan Dimitrov. The fact that the loan is more of us helping get a Cosmos player get fit for his real team is what is most annoying. I would never bother helping the Cosmos.

Cannot think of one. That doesn't mean it hasn't happened, I just cannot recall such an instance.

If you're the Cosmos, considering your only real concern is winning the fall season, you don't really care what happens in the spring season. This is a unique situation, with a split season and a team not participating in one half.

The player gets to play, and gets paid (by whom, I am not quite sure, but at least the Cosmos don't have to pay him to sit around). If he "helps" his loan team, it's only in the first half, and the Cosmos don't care about that. And if he does help the Strikers in the first half, his absence would weaken them in the second half, then, wouldn't it?

Unless the Strikers use the time between halves to work that transfer window for Ronaldinho or another big name from overseas. Hahahahahahahahahahahahaha.

But can he be lured out of retirement considering he has an important position with the Brazilian World Cup next year?

Is this a joke? Ronaldo Fenomeno is about 50 pounds overweight and completely out of condition, and has officially retired for good.
I seriously doubt any club within the NASL can afford any top level internationally known player, not this year anyway. I do know that the offered salary of incoming Cosmos players is competitive to what they were earning in the MLS.

Didn't you read? He just lost weight on a reality show. If he is in shape, he would be by far the leagues best player. If NYRB can employ a 38 year old Juninho in MLS, Ronny at 36 could easily play in the NASL.
