GARDEN CITY, N.Y. – F.C. New York of USL PRO is proud to announce that former Chesterfield striker Ben Algar has signed a one-year contract pending USL and USSF approval. Algar, 21, came to New York for trials this summer and has been training with Matlock Town FC since then to maintain his fitness.

Algar signed the deal alongside F.C. New York President Doug Petersen at the Copthorne Hotel, Bramall Lane in Sheffield, England. Algar was surrounded by family and well-wishers, including Sheffield United Vice Chairman, David Green and Dave MacCarthy, who oversees SUFC academy. Also in attendance were Carl Shieber, Sheffield United head of football administration, as well as football greats Brian Deane and Tony Agana.

Is this team Sheffield New York, like Red Bull New York is an arm of Red Bull Salzburg?

I thought the whole point of this lower level soccer was to recruit locals and develop local players, it looks like the whole team is being filled with internationals!!!

I'm pretty sure that the point of any team is to try to put a team together that gives it the best chance to win.
